Well wouldn't you just know it, the Taj Mahal is CLOSED on FRIDAYS! The one day I was going to go, figures.

OK, so does anyone have any other suggestions of things to do or go see in Delhi or Agra on a long layover?

Thanks again for any new ideas!

Last time I was there, the captain and I had the concierge pick out a good cabdriver, who we hired to show us around Dehli for the afternoon. Went and saw the presidential palace, parliment bldg, the Red Fort in Old Dehli, a private, live cobra show on the side of the road (cost a buck each), plus the required gold and rug shops. We got to see quite a bit of the good and bad sides of Delhi, and was $15 and 4 hours well spent. And, we were back in time for the happy hour!

About 18 months ago I took the tour offered in the lobby. I t was approx 90-100 USD. I heard about the train or hiring a private car and driver, but when it was all said and done, I was pleased with the lobby tour. sit back and let them handle it all. lunch was included at the Sheraton. We saw the Taj, another burial site, The Red Fort, etc. Stopped at an artisans market where you could purchase items from jewelry to rugs to inlaid tables. Most prices include shipping to the US (and yes it does arrive 6-8 weeks later). At the TAJ, don't be a typical cheap pilot...let a guide show you around the inside of the tomb (a couple of bucks) and have a photo taken (the quality is quite good and reasonable) they are just trying to put shoes on their kids feet too! It is long..I concur with the earlier post 0600-2200.

Sleep in late,...untill 1730 or so. Get up. Go down stairs to the bar at 1800 and drink like a fiend until 1959. Say good night. Go up stairs and go to bed. Repeat as needed.

But if he was Navy, he'd sit on it right?
