The job never seemed to be about flying for JL anyway. He rarely flew when he was the CP or the years before when he was in training. I doubt he cares if he can come back up front with a seniority number. He can fly test and he can maintain his pay and ego by doing the special jobs that he has a niche for doing.

They might be wrong but that's definitely what the management guy said at recurrent last week. That any guys over 60 would have to check out on the panel before being allowed to go on to another seat. Question was brought up what if they intentionally try to fail the S/O course to speed things up and his answer was they they would be done. For what it's worth.

It doesn't make sense but then non of this does.

I guess it is a contract deal. And, it will only matter to the guys who turned 60 and didn't go to class (ie faked an illness or something). Most guys didn't work the system and are already checked out as S/Os. GC might have saved time back to the left seat if he had just gone ahead and checked out.

As for saving money on training cycles...our s/o instructors are getting paid and not training any new hires. Might as well make the over 60 guys run the gauntlet they caused. The company is still training guys that will be around for longer than 5 years.
As for the FAA, it would really funny to see them pass the critical phase of flight rule. I guess they figure the over 60 guy is ready for a nap after taxing to the runway anyway!

but if they can't be in the seat together during critical phases of flight... can we expect another change in ALPA policy because it's the "right thing to do?" Somewhere I vaguely remember something about safety being the buzz word.
finally...If you have Captain on your APC profile, does that mean you're exempt from the rule?
