I'm detecting another by-product of this change... a disrespect for Captains..
Respect is a two way street. It definitely isn't earned by a senority number or longevity. Sadly we have quite a few that will never understand that. I respect the extra stripe the company put on the shoulder but I'll never respect the person or pilot if he/she can't figure this out.

This would be priceless if it were to come true, but alas, I doubt it will be so.

I understand the two way concept... and I'd hope these guys are in the minority so we don't paint everyone with the same broad brush. What I was commenting on was the obvious disrespect for the position... I may not respect the individual who is President, but I will alway's have respect for the office.

Many many years in the r/ seat, I flew with my share of complete moron's but I can't think of many times I wasn't respectful of the position. That seems to be trend here with many of the junior guys... unfortunately being the F/O, we don't have the responsibility of command... and I'm sure you agree that respect must be commanded.. not demanded.... but the benifit of the doubt isn't a bad place to start.

Way to early for **** this deep... maybe it's my southern upbringing, but there are many examples of that not alway's being the case! Ask Sean.

I have found it's better to stay away from a drink made from cane sugar. It was a hard lesson learned, but it was a lesson I'll never forget. And don't worry we got out. The RL was packed

I concur that the Captain is owed the benefit of the doubt. Respect the seat first. But, as you say, we have our group of known idiots in the left seat. Why, then does the union continually defend these unsafe pilots? How does defending them enhance the union's credibility with the company on other important issues?

Also, I tend to lose repsect for a Captain who gets miffed and begins to make snide remarks or searches to find something wrong because I made a better landing than he did. I've noticed this with a few individuals who seem intimidated that the FO can actually fly a jet better than they've demonstated.

Landings are an "any given day" issue, for most anyway. I went through upgrade last year with a guy young enough to be my son...some may know him, his initials are Chad...... first landing in the sim... grease... second, grease... this went on until I finally just sent him around... for general principle!~ Young whipper snapper.. that showed him!

We all have examples of problems in the cockpit, but as you say.. respect the seat first, there are enough idiots in both seats to go around.

As for the Union, this board brings out a lot of things that the Union doesn't get accomplished. The one place that's alway's open and usually willing to help is Pro Standards. Got a problem with another member... give em a call, you may be surprised what inputs they can make.

The good thing at FedEx is that we have all be in the left seat before. FO's know the deal and should be the kind of FO they wanted when they were the Capt. in their previous life. As for having a difference in opions, as long as it doesn't interfere in the cockpit, who cares. Opions are like a**holes, everyone has one, and everybody else's stink!
