I have flown with two Captains, that have done this. Operate ANC-KIX, back end DH. Deviate right away NWA, KIX-HNL, stayed HNL two days (expensed the hotel). Then on home. I never checked back with them, but they said they got the ticket and the hotel covered from the deviation bank, didn't ask for hotel in lieu of. Just put it on the card... Like I said I never checked back with them or did it myself.

BonesF15, you can expense one hotel room in addition to your deviation D/H per CBA Chapter 8.C.3.ii.(b).1.
(b) A pilot who deviates from international deadhead travel may
expense hotel(s) as part of his deviation travel as follows:
(1) he may expense 1 hotel room as a deviation expense, or
You can expense the additional hotel room in conjunction with either a front end D/H or back end D/H. In fact, you can expense the room in your domicile the night before an international D/H. I've called Crew Travel Audit on this one, got the approval, and have been expensing a room the night before an early D/H to Asia for several years now.

Interesting....
could you please provide a generic, but specific, example of how exactly this would apply?
ie. were you taking the scheduled DH and using deviation money from a different trip to cover that hotel the night before?.....how, exactly, would this work?
'cause, if you're taking the DH from your domicile, then I'm ass-u-me-ing it's the scheduled DH and there wouldn't be any extra bank to pay for the hotel......just confused on the details of how it works without $$$ out of pocket.
sounds like a brilliant idea though.

I've taken both the scheduled D/H and also deviated from the sched. In both cases I used other deviation bank money to pay for the hotel room the night before the D/H out of LAX. I've done this when I had an early show for the D/H and was concerned about the weather at home or in LA.
makes sense because the contract says if you are deviating on an international deadhead, you can expense "1 hotel as a deviation expense"
or, in the case of the guys deviating through HNL and staying 2 nights in the hotel there - you "may expense up to the same number of
hotel rooms as in his scheduled deadhead"
these are both different sections than the "hotel in lieu of deadhead" section where you get either the hotel/per diem OR airplane ticket - not both.
when you said you used the hotel at the beginning of a trip while you were still IN DOMICILE - I was wondering - because i've been denied getting reimbursed for ground transportation IN DOMICILE (taxi from home/crash pad to airport) - so I figured hotels were the same (not reimbursable while IN DOMICILE)?
guess not - thanks again.
