Oh, I see. If this turns out to be a good, reasonable rendition of what actually happens at the GOC (meaning it shows the good, the bad, and the ugly), would it be possible for those of us who do not live in Memphis to see it? Like here on APC? And don't ask me why I would want to see something like this. Just morbid curiosity, I guess. Have to keep up my reputation as a news junkie.

Here's the official videos page: FedEx Multimedia. Includes the SuperHub and AntFarm, and lots of stuffed shirts on second page but at the bottom is Memphis at Midnight.

This is the link to the story and video. Having worked in Sector Control, Flight Control, and finally Global Operations Control from 1980-1996 this is very realistic. It is not a documentary. As a note of interest GOC is a part of CSSD, and not AOD. CSSD is the same division as all of the ground employees.

Cool video. But the girl with the speech impediment was annoying. Ah, Memphis News.

md11phlyer, you are a naughty boy! ;)
Watching the video about the innards of the GOC is more interesting than reading about the murderer who also had a penchant for dismembering his victims. Something I would like to see is tracking my own package on the War Board. You know, watch it drop into the box, get loaded into the MD-11, and follow it as it arrives in Memphis, then leaves again. Wouldn't that be nifty?? Maybe it's just me. |
would have been nice if they had a pilot rep giving us a little credit for actually getting the packages to and from those airports with all the bad weather. you'd think that it's all GOC doing the work from the way the piece was done.

Ring Tone
I think long after I retire, the sound of that particular ringer will run chills up my spine. Nothing like waking up in a sleep room on a bad weather night to that ringer!:D
