AT, although Cathays business class is far superior to most US carriers 1st, I strongly encourage you to contact the Dead head sub-committee of the SIG. Please PM me via this site for details. You have several viable options. Not the least of which is going out and getting your own 1st class ticket which the Company will pay for. But go to the source (SIG DH sub-committee) for the real gouge.

If your flight is on Cathay Flt 750 (BOM-HKG)...It has no 1st class.

I believe that flight has a block time from BOM-HKG of exactly 5+00. Since our contract stipulates Y class on flights that are scheduled for block "5:00 hrs or less"...it looks like coach, coach.

Could be I'm off, but I've heard of this one before.

Block time is calculated on total, not longest leg. BOM-TPE (via HKG) is approx. 6+45.

If I'm not mistaken, the SIG put out last year that they had reached an agreement with mgmt that all deadheads out of India, regardless of block time, would be in business or first class. Check with the SIG.

Make sure you have a copy of the ticket or your itinerary if eticket to get into the airport. The Cambata aviation guys are really important to have with you to get through immigration and customs. I think they're at the help desk inside. They are usually younger guys in blue cotton uniforms. I think there might be gouge on pilotswap.net.

True, no first class on that airplane, business class only. I have taken that flight.

First class only on Air India. From Mar 07 SIG notes:

"The solutions that were agreed to within the contract this month by the Company and ALPA SIG include the following Soft Parameters:
1. All flights on AIR India will NOW be in first class seating no matter the length of the flight, duty or the cities that are associated with the flight. If First Class is not provided on the flight, Business Class will be the default seating. "

Question - if a mid trip deadhead is scheduled for 5+00 and they book you in coach, can you pay the difference using your deviation bank or personal funds to upgrade to business/first?

The last two times I've deadheaded out of BOM the Cambata Aviation guys never showed up. First time going through was a pain. Second time I wore my uniform and it made the process much smoother. I packed a shirt in my carryon and changed once I got to the first class lounge.
