If you can't beat 'em join 'em!

You don't try to go at Fred in his own backyard. Evidently, what happens is you lose and Fred moves into your backyard (CGN).

Looking into the crystal ball:

What does this mean for the associated pilot groups (FDX/Astar/ABEX)?

I'm sure someone smarter than me can answer that. My take is that DHL owns that flying, not Astar/ABEX. I would hate to see those guys lose any flying, but I'm not sure how they're covered regarding scope and succesorship pertaining to DHL.

The article, after all, is extremely vague and doesn't indicate what 'cooperating with FedEx' really means. I wish good luck upon all freight dogs, we make the world go 'round.

If the cited report is true, it's a certainty that Fred is getting something out of this too. What that is, nobody knows. They don't quote sources, or what the nature or extent of DP's "cooperation" with FedEx is going to be.

In most of the world, DHL is still the Big Dog. This may be a way for both Fred and DHL to focus their energies back into their respective "backyards".

No doubt that's the ploy. The problem is that the U.S. domestic market is flat-out flat. However, growth in the E.U. looks pretty solid for a smaller dog in that market like FedEx.

As I said, vague article.

I think ABX has flying outside of DHL. I don't know how much but I doubt it is enough for the whole group. I think Astar has nothing but DHL. Both groups better start tapping their networks because if that says what I think it says both will be out of work.

Sorry to hear that for ABX and Astar, but cheers to FedEx for eliminating a competitor. You tried for around 20 years to kill Airborne Express and it only took DHL 3 years.

Ah yes. My loyal ALPA brothers. About what I'd expect. Rumor is that it will be a contract to run ground delivery, and not the airside. So put your tongues back in your mouths, ok?

We're all on the same team boys. All this from a vague few paragraphs?

where did that come from? NO body at FedEx is "hoping" or "cheering" or anything else on this.
