FEDEX- Problem with Air France

Has anyone else had a problem with Air France saying that we have a tag on our tickets and we are not allowed to use their Business Class lounge even when we have a $3500 Business class ticket....it seems to always be a problem in Paris and now it is in LAX as well....has anyone talked to the company about this?

MaydayMark 03-02-2008 06:39 PM

There must be some "code" on our Air France tickets that identifies us as "discounted interline" tickets??? I've had them tell me I couldn't get miles on my interline ticket? This was i the "paper ticket" days ...

fr8av8r 03-02-2008 06:48 PM

Had the same experience myself in Paris. Proud posessor of an Air Chance Business Class ticket, I was told no frequent flyer miles because it was a discounted ticket that FedEx paid only 15% of the regular fare price! The e-mail I had from Corp Trav indicated otherwise (their tickets must be wicked expensive, all I have to say!)!

42GO 03-02-2008 06:58 PM

The normal business ticket was $6500 , but you can get a 30 day advance for $2500, over $1000 LESS than we pay but we can't use business class lounge?
I am working this with the company....it makes you want to deviate just to poke them in the eye.....

TheBaron 03-02-2008 08:37 PM

I ALWAYS deviate and go on NWA out of DTW or Continental out of EWR. They always let me use their lounges and I always get the miles. $crew the frogs!

Tuck 03-02-2008 08:56 PM

Yeah but then you have to 2 leg it from LAX and NW isn't really much better. Our contract with AF doesn't have any discounted first class so we end up with the discounted business. It seems that we should be put on carriers that at least offer, per our contract with them, the class of service indicated in the CBA. Maybe 2 leg on British Airways or something.

CobraSubic 03-02-2008 11:35 PM

Cathay Pacific has the same policy of not allowing access to their lounges with FedEx purchased tickets at a discounted rate.

I think Delta is doing something similar here in the US. Recently a UPS pilot had some 80K miles deleted by a "Delta audit" where they claimed that since UPS is getting a discount on Delta we are not allowed to collect miles. Another guy who had purchased a ticket for his wife using his Delta miles received a pretty hostile letter from Delta saying he had 30 days to pay for his ticket or else since his miles were “not valid.”

This is what I heard from one of our captains just a few days ago and those incidents all happened within the last 6 months.
I'll do my best from now on to commercial on other airlines than Delta - no offense to Delta pilots but I cherish my miles and would hate to be audited by the Delta IRS.

That is odd....I have used the first class Cathay lounge on many occasions.

Rock 03-03-2008 03:33 AM

Every time I fly on Cathey Pacific I've had no problems at all getting into their lounges. In fact, the only problems I've had are on Continental in Paris.

Maybe it isn't an airline thing in Paris. Maybe it's just a French thing.

I know a guy who had a deviation ticket on AF from HKG and was not allowed in the lounge there either. Make sure you inform the Company and the SIG.

capt_zman 03-03-2008 04:16 AM

I've tried 4 different times to get miles on Lufthansa. Twice in Cologne, once in Frankfurt and once online and mailing the ticket to them, no dice. Discounted means no miles for you!!!!!

They do let you use the lounge in Frankfurt though.

JollyF15 03-03-2008 04:36 AM

No problems here

Never had problems with Cathy, NWA, Cont, or Singapore getting in the lounge. In fact, on my last Cathy DH in Jan (HKG-CDG) I was able to get all the miles put in my AA freq flyer bank. Never flown on Air Frog, so I have no data base there.

Don't count on CO giving you miles on a CO account. Use your NWA account for CO flights.

magic rat 03-03-2008 05:46 AM

I have a problem with France....does that count?

Albief15 03-03-2008 06:02 AM

I had a waitress give me a free beer in Great Falls once...

machz990 03-03-2008 06:49 AM

I've used the Air France Business Lounge in Paris as recently as last December. No issues at all. The captain I was flying with went up the the ticket counter in Paris and he had a reservation but Global Travel never ticketed it so he had to purchase the ticket on the spot from an Air France agent. If I recall his ticket was about $500 more than my ticket from Global Travel for that leg. I haven't had any problems using Cathay and their lounges either.

SNIZ 03-03-2008 07:04 AM

Albie,

That's a shack for pueling!:D

Albief15 03-03-2008 07:07 AM

That's not pueling...I has happy to get it!

That's okay...got 60 or so hours off in SFO this month and I'm really looking forward to the trip. Anyone done a good wine country tour lately?

SNIZ 03-03-2008 07:12 AM

Albie,

That's another shack for denying pueling. Come on, you know the mayor is never wrong and cannot be challenged in any way. Jolly, pipe in anytime........:D

FLMD11CAPT 03-03-2008 07:14 AM

Which trip is that Albie.......? Not the Ooops one I hope????:D:D

This has always been the scariest part of the merger talks as far as I am concerned. The good news is our accepted fares will go up and I can fly American.

I know, for the sake of our frequent mile programs I was hoping for a NWA takeover of Delta, not the other way around. Sorry Deltoids, nothing personal.

fdxflyer 03-03-2008 12:04 PM

I use Delta and Continental for NW miles (fedex) - how about you guys?

US Scareways. Of course you have to love RJ's.

RV-7 03-03-2008 01:04 PM

Bad Trend,

Can't get Alaska miles on Alaska if you book through global travel. Buy it cheaper online and you get miles.

Death by a thousand cuts..

oldfr8dog 03-03-2008 01:43 PM

Our tix at UPS must be coded differently. I always get the miles. I live in the SE so DL is my preferred carrier. I've never been denied access to the AF business class lounge at CDG either. You guys are getting screwed.:(

I'm UPS too and the problems with Delta started recently – in the last 6 months or so. Apparently they've been auditing their miles program and every now and then they expunge the miles for some members saying "discounted tickets = no miles." The captain who lost his miles was a UPS captain. See my earlier reply – it was about two UPS pilots…

FDXLAG 03-03-2008 03:00 PM

Fedex has written agreements with SW NW American and United granting miles with the discount tickets. I will also use my NW card with Delta and CAL to get NW miles and the more important upgades.

I suppose it depends on who purchased the ticket and at what rate. Additionally the agent who issues your bording pass has to notice the code. Flying out of HK they usually do, however, they may not notice or even care about it out of other airports. Out of Manila one morning the agent told me she wasn't supposed to issue a lounge card but gave me one anyway.

Global Travel paid the big bucks, and I have only used the lounge in LAX and HKG.

Tuck 03-17-2008 06:37 PM

Flew Air France LAX-CDG, 17 Mar and no problem getting into the lounge (it sucks anyways). As always business class is pretty lousy on AF for an 11 hour flight. Looks like in April we're switching to 2 legs on AA for LAX-CDG and that'll be worse (767 business for the long leg)

Ditto. No problems getting into any lounge with Cathay.
