Fedex Offline

I am curious to know more specifics on all the offline travel I see on the threads. Do Fedex flyers deahead offline all the time? Do you do this as a part of your built lines? Deviation on your own? Do you get any choice in teh airlines used? Most important, does Fedex pay for these tickets and do you really get all the miles for your own use? Awesome! Is this common in the industry?

Your deadheads depend on your trip. Some trips D/H on the the front and back end, (called double deadheads). Others D/H on either the front or back and then others contain no D/H's. (As an example I had over 60 deadhead legs on AA last year, as well as various NW and United legs.) A FDX pilot can either take the scheduled deadhead or "deviate". If you deviate you use a "bank" for the month that is basically your month of scheduled fares added together. When you deviate you can take the airline of your choice, (or train), or drive to the trip. We get miles on AA, United, NW and all of their partners, (as well as some others). The only times you don't get re-reimbursed is if you drive your own car to start a trip or are over your monthly budget. That's all I know......

Yes we get miles with SW NW AA and United. Any money left in the bank at the end of the month goes back to Fred. Can't speak for other airlines.

Ditto at big brown - I think with us any money left over in the ticket bank after 3 bid periods (which equals 6 months) goes back to the company. It might be 2 bid periods (4 months), can’t remember.
Some foreign airlines will allow you to credit your miles to their alliance partner. For example when I flew on Singapore Airlines I added my miles to United’s Mileage Plus program. You can do that with Lufthansa, etc. too – all Star Alliance partners.

We get miles on pretty much any airline we commercial on (it’s up to you to furnish a frequent miles account number to scheduling which they store in your profile). Lately Delta has been "taking away” miles for some guys. Happens only now and then but I'm now avoiding Delta and fly on other airlines.
