Question FDX - Hotel Stby in Memphis for 727/SOs?

Riddle me this Batman....

I just noticed a 4-day Hotel Stby in Memphis for the back of the Boeing (22 credit hours).

Why would the company do this with over 40+ guys on reserve each day....AND the standard 5-6 airport standbys per day which often get picked up by non-reserve folks....???

In reality, the hotel stby is a RSV period. They call you short notice for any event. My suspicion is that with all the disputed pairings next month, that the company is "hedging" their bets in order to make certain all the flights get covered? Anybody got a better idea?

Even though many of the YOW disputed pairings this month are indeed longer 3-4 day trips, the guys pulling R24 the past few months are barely getting used.

...still doesn't make sense to me cost-wise with soooooo many guys on reserve in the back of the Boeing.

A reserve guy can't turn down a DP...right?

You think the company worries about DPs in MEM? DPs in MEM get picked up as fast as anything else.

So, no, I don't have a better idea.

They are pulling the MEM MD11 R24's into Hotel Standby as well, both seats. I guess they are either trying to waste money or they have a shortage of reserves. The ones that I have seen in standby have done just that, standby. Nothing like a Company so worried about costs that they spend thousands on needless hotel and per diem ?

On a side note What's up with the weird airport stby that have been getting assigned. (MEM 11F) An RB guy last night got a 1915L to 0115L Airport Stby. There was a another one earlier this week that went 1700L to 2200L.

I think those were extras creating in anticipation of inclimate weather.. At least, that is what it looks like they have doing on the Bus over the last couple of weeks...

...but this isn't the old "pulling the R24's into MEM"...it's a separate pairing in "open time" that anyone can pick-up.

?????
