ALPA question for the FEDEX guys
so i got my bi-weekly email from alpa and there was an interesting article titled "dont make the same mistake we did". it was referring to fedex going with their own union and losing all the benefits and expertise that alpa has to offer. they had 3 pilots give their opinion about it so i was just wondering how the guys on here feel. if you could go back would you let alpa stay? how long did they represent you guys? any thoughts on bringing them back? not trying to start an alpa push or anything. actually my post is far from it. just wanting to see if the majority of you guys feel the way these three pilots did.

Out of the three pilots--two were/are block reps and one is a MEC Vice Chairman. What do you want them to say? Seems pretty one-sided if you ask me.
Personally, I'm glad we got rid of the FPA and went back to ALPA. The two things I would like to see is our MEC recalled and the current President of ALPA thrown out. Two many personal agendas and not enough majority representation. |
Airsupport,
Based on your question and the way you phrased it, I want to make sure that you understand that FedEx was ALPA, left ALPA and we returned to ALPA approximately 9 years ago. You won't find many that wish we were still FPA. It was just a necessary stepping stone in the evolution of unionizing the FedEx crewforce. |

They should have also included the link to this FedEx Pilot Group at A Glance article (PDF file) from the Sep 2005 ALPA magazine. It is a pretty good snapshot of our checkered past.

The FPA was in part controlled by former "NO UNION" members, and very influenced by Flight Management. More importantly, they had limited experience and resources. FedEx and the bastion of lawyers would have bankrupted FPA in a matter of time. There is no way it could have survived the constant disputes, negotiations, and grievances that were occurring.

Yes, this is where it is professed from the highest roof tops, "And they all lived happily ever after."
