IPA/UPS Sign Anchorage Domicile Implementation: Letter of Agreement 08-01
After months of negotiations between the Association and UPS, IPA President Bob Miller said that he and the Executive Board are pleased to announce an agreement has been reached with the Company that will provide additional benefits to all crewmembers who move to the Anchorage domicile.

Miller, pictured to the right, said the agreement will ensure fair and equitable treatment of all crewmembers who move to ANC. “One of the most important elements of this agreement is that it applies to all aircraft currently operated by UPS and those fleet types that may be acquired by UPS in the future. As a union, we won’t have to go back and renegotiate this with each new fleet type that moves to ANC. This will prevent any future undue hardship on crewmembers and their families, as we’ve experienced with the implementation of the 747-400.”
Anchorage domicile representative Wayne Jackson said today’s announcement addresses a number of concerns that crewmembers wanted to see resolved in an Anchorage Agreement:

• Under the new agreement, the two hour call out will be extended to all ANC based crewmembers—not just MD-11 crewmembers. As per the contract, B747-400 crewmembers were only given a 1.5 hour call out period prior to today’s agreement.

• Also like the MD-11 agreement, B747-400 crewmembers wanted the ability to sign a three year commitment that would call for the Company to pay for a move back to another domicile if they do not like living in ANC. The new agreement specifies a paid move back to another UPS domicile after three years. It applies to all ANC crewmembers who sign the agreement.

• The agreement also calls for a $1500 stipend per pay period for all new hire crewmembers who sign the agreement. The stipend will help to make up for the higher cost of living in ANC. More significantly, the stipend will also be paid retroactively to all new hires who sign a three year voluntary commitment.

• Under the new agreement the Company will also reimburse relocation expenses for seniority and new hire crewmembers who have already relocated provided the total Company cost (as determined in ART 12) will not exceed the amount that it would have paid had the relocation occurred as one event. Jackson said this will help relieve a huge financial burden for those crewmembers who had no choice but to pay for a move out of their own pockets after completing training.

• The agreement also specifies that you can move within a 120 mile radius of ANC.

Miller said the agreement, signed today, is effective immediately. “We’re glad there is an agreement; however, we’re disappointed that it has taken so long. We hope these changes will bring much needed relief to all ANC based crewmembers.”
Complete terms of this agreement will be printed in the next IPA Flight Times and will available online in the near future.

Just curious, but why was the original package negotiated for MD11 crews ONLY?

Yes, I know, at the time that was all there was in ANC. But was there no foresight that other fleet types might eventually make their way up there?

Also, a new jumpseat agreement. But I thought the 744 seats were not up to standard for company travel? Has this now changed?

"747-400 Priority 3 Jumpseat Agreement

In addition to the new ANC agreement, IPA President Bob Miller and the EB met with UPS this week to seek an equitable agreement on the Jumpseat issues between the 747-400 and classic 747 aircraft. System Chief Pilot J Barnes addresses this concern in today's UPS Chief Pilot Hotline, "There have been some questions on the Company's policy regarding scheduling of jumpseats on the B747-400 aircraft. To clarify this, it is our policy to only utilize the jumpseats in the passenger section of the aircraft."

Miller emphasizes to crewmembers, "The Company has committed they will place no P3s in the flight deck jumpseats. The issue of the Jumpseat Matrix for the 747-400 is separate and will be handled by the Scheduling Arbitration Review Team (SART) for resolution.”

How about a 2 hour callout for everybody on reserve? If there ever was a domicile that needed a 2 hour (at least) callout, it's ONT. Anyone in SDF ever try driving in SoCal traffic during rush hour? I didn't think so.

Having lived in east LA (aka Phoenix) for 7+ years, we traveled extensively from PHX - SAN - Ventura - Huntington Beach ... avoided times anywhere near rush hour, but know what it is like.

Still miss those places, traffic and all ! :(
