FDX Excess bid financial dilemma

OK guys, this announcement couldn't come at a worse time. Or maybe it is for the better. I'm supposed to sign a contract on a home tomorrow. I am about 50 - 60 from the bottom of the Airbus captains list. If I were to get excessed off the bus left seat, I probably wouldn't be able to afford the house.

What's everyone's guess? Will there be an excess on the Bus, and how far up will it go? I realize your guess is as good as mine, except for the few on here that have all the inside scoop.

My (extremely) rough guess is that there were 150 over-60 guys looking to move back to the front seats when the law changed.

Since then about 100 have moved up or will be.

That leaves about 50 more to go. They can't ALL go to the bus.

Only other problem you may have is them parking or selling busses. If that happens it won't be until 2009. You got that long to build up a war chest or pay down your mortgage into something more manageable.

Or just wait 5 more years for your financial goals, like all us F/O's.....

With gas prices going through the roof, our domestic market actually shrinking by about 2% and multiple unknowns on the rollout of the CAN base; I personally would go the conservative route. Look at the number of guys who could/will get excessed out of the 727 and DC-10 that could move ahead of you from both the left and right seat and it makes it an even more ominous situation. Best of luck with whatever you decide!

Don't you mean OCT 2012? I assume you are referencing our next contract date and I would bet a months pay it will take 2 years past the amendable date before we see that!:eek::eek:

I am 20ish numbers from the bottom of the same list, and just closed on a house last Monday. Jump in, the water is warm (cause I just peed myself).

I have a question that might affect a lot of guys too.

A DC-10 S/O is awarded MEM 757 CA on the last bid (couldn't hold a WB on last bid). Is he eligible to be excessed from the DC-10 S/O to a MD-11 or Airbus left seat OR since he held MEM 757 on the last bid, is he comitted to his training date on 757 and not eligible to be excessed?
