ASTAR'S Race to the Bottom!

Attention all pilots/union members:

In an effort to influence DHL’s decision on the home for the 6 future 767-300 aircraft purchased from Boeing, the ASTAR MEC has executed the "race to the bottom" plan. In order to prevent these aircraft from landing at Atlas, Polar, ABX, or even EAT, the ASTAR MEC leadership is currently negotiating concessions in pay and work rules. This means they are willing to fly a heavy for less pay than the narrow body pay. This plan violates several ALPA national codes of ethic and at least one resolution.

I know you have honor as a southern belle of Ole Miss bearing. I don't know what you have heard, actually, I'm pretty sure what you've "heard" based on your post, but before you go posting slanderous rumor about our pilot group and it's leadership, you might want to wait and see and know the facts.

So pilot brethren, now that this highly inflamatory statement is out there, here is what is true,

The Astar MEC was approached by management to take pay concessions to fly DHL's new 767ERS. We told them to pound sand, but have had further discussions with management to ascertain the validity of their claims. It's our understanding two other companies, EAT and Polar have been contacted as well, and we have sought to verify that as well. End of story for now.

Would we like to get them? You bet your your you know what. Are we suspicious of John Dasburg? You bet your you know what. Are we gonna do due dilligence? Yes maa'aam.

P.S. Flygirl - Since I first read this exact same post on F-Info, I figured I'd come over here and see if you ran all over tarnation with it. I was unpleasantly not surprised. It was beneath you.

You can forget about Polar getting your 76's Those "lead head AAWW management types" dont have the "cranium contents" to put additional aircraft on the certificat much less another type.

Sure hope its true your MEC told them to "pound sand" after years of waiting and hard work to get your pay rates. I know when Polar starts negotiations for its contract, AAWW "aint seen nothin yet". Astar MEC needs to take "the negotiations" are over attitude.

Whaledriver, don't want to assume anything here, but, when you say "those ALPA scumbags", are you refering to ALPA in general, the ASTAR MEC in particular, or both?

Here are the facts....

From the MEC:
A message to the other pilots in the industry; ASTAR management recently contacted the MEC about negotiating concessionary rates for potential 767-300ER flying for DHL. This contact occurred literally weeks after the signing of our latest collective bargaining agreement -- an agreement that makes ASTAR pilots among the highest paid in the industry and that took four years of often arduous negotiations to complete. Despite the attractiveness of new international flying, the ASTAR pilots, have responded overwhelmingly to reject ANY concessionary pay rates to compete for more flying. ALPA ASTAR pilots are strong union members, and through that strength have consistently rejected concessionary bargaining as bad for our profession. Consistent with the core values of a strong union, we encourage every pilot in this industry to support the universal benefits of fair wages and work rules by rejecting attempts by management to engage in a race to the bottom.
We further support our professional colleagues, regardless of union affiliation, in their contract negotiations and remain committed to helping them achieve successful working agreements.

To the ASTAR pilots "good job". Sounds like DHL wants to give you the aircraft. You'll probably end up flying them anyway.
