I'm like a pig looking at a wrist-watch with some of this.

For instance: If an MD-11 F/O was the last guy on the list in MEM before this bid thing started.
1- Is it a given he will be bumped off the MD in MEM based on all the guys coming off the -10?
2 - If so, how does he know where he ends up? Is it reflected in the posting or do you have to do the math yourself based on new awards into the seat and subtract the junior folks off the bottom of the list as required?
3 - Will there have to be another bid to place those who get excessed.

Thanks.

There would have to be an additional excess bid for his seat to get bumped off.

On another note, many of the excessed 10 guys have not put in an excess bid as of this practice bid, but were still listed as excessed to other seats. I talked to a senior 10 capt who has nothing but 10ca on his standing bid, but was listed on the practice bid as being awarded 11 capt. Just as always, practice bids mean nothing.

I can hold some nice lines NOW in the MD10/11 at MEM, but after upteen guys get excessed into it I'm not sure how good 65% at MEM will really be. You and I both like day/domestic, but there is only so much to go around. Years ago...30% in the 727 was SWEET! Now...I'm close to that and I cannot consistently hold R-24, a west coast line, or even a day line. Sometimes I can, sometimes I cannot--but the point is the bid back is shriniking.

I'd like to fly to ANC, CDG, VCP, and STN once in a while, when not going to SEA, DEN, LAX, and MCO. I got a feeling if I go to the MD11 I won't get getting much of what I want.

So--pony up--upgrade--and go make some money. Its a 14 hour flight from ATL to HKG, about $850 on Cathay. Two weeks gone, two weeks home, and a lot more money. Lots to stew on...but to answer your question...yeah...I'm serious. It is still a practice bid. And currently there are dudes junior to me there, which could have passover ramifications between now and training. I'm still researching and stewing. But I got a lot of contacts over there that know what the lay of the land, and it might be fun (for a while). Another point--another bid is around the corner, which will have some vacancies. If I bite off more than I can chew I could bid back stateside, and a 2 year seatlock to down-bid wouldn't really hurt--I'm more than 2 years away from a domestic upgrade anyway.

Not trying to share too much personal information, but there are a lot of opportunities in the this bid. The only guys I see get hurt on the junior captains on the 727 and DC-10 that cannot hold a similar seat. I'm sorry it is hurting them, but there are some winners coming out of this too.

And I won't take the FDA LOA package--section 6 is all I want. My family and horses will stay put.

Albie, I understand all your logic...except the 2 weeks on and off. I would not bet the farm or horses that you can pull of a schedule like that in HKG, junior or senior in the seat. Could be wrong but bidder beware !:)

Anyone that commutes can tell you your biting off more than you can chew. Commuting and deviating is problem the most stressful part of our entire job, IMHO

So, there are 90 guys who got awarded MD-11 MEM on this practice. Assuming it was the real bid, that either means 90 junior guys get bumped or they go way fat in that seat (or something in between). Either way, does that get decided at a later date (after the real bid closes) and another bid comes out reflecting those excesses?
Thanks.

I agree with you Adler.

There could be another excess after this one.

FDXLAG 04-24-2008 03:57 PM

Nothing is in stone, but if they didn't excess off the MD rt seat look like they will be happy to be fat.

No, those 90 positions are essentially vacancies that weren't posted. The MD is adding 16 aircraft over the next 2 yrs.

Albie -

I hope it works out for you; best of luck with it. Are you planning on remaining our Block Rep?

Yes, it would be decided after the bid closes. "O" spoke at RGS the other day, and fwiw said that they want to be fat in the bus and 11 since they will be the seats that feed the 777 next year. They don't want to re-train guys to a lower seat, just to have to train them back in another year or two.

But if they felt the need to excess out of another seat, it would be after this bid closes.
