FDX BID - Interesting Domino Reaction
Spending the hub-turn analyzing the bid results on Numbers (Excel 4 mac) and there is an interesting thing happening....
With movement, there are additional excesses created. This is to be expected.
37 Additional 727CA
8 Additional 727FO
15 Additional 727SO
But what is interesting is a 727SO will go to 727FO creating another FO excess, and an 727FO will excess to 727CA. Now there is another 727CA who has to be excessed!
But the senior 727CAs who could bid up to be excessed to a widebody captain aren't, therefore making junior 727CAs be forced to move back to an FO seat!
Things to make you go hummmm.....

What else can you make excel do? Can you compare the amount of trainging cycles we would have had if 07-03 had not been canceled to this bid's training cycles? Now that would be really cool!
Do you know what the ideal crew/a/c number is for each a/c btw?
Did you also notice the overall loss of a/c from the Oct. 07 fleet plan to this one.....

It will be very interesting to see this thing play out and I really hope we do not see the bump and flush actually happen in the 727CA seat. If anything this shows the importance of having a complete standing bid if you are on the 727.

If I was one of those 72CA being forced out, I would definitely game the system and bid 30CA in HKG with no intention of going. Best case, you get passover pay; worst case you don't sign the letter and your stuck as a W/B FO anyway. Am I missing something? I would also be sure to thank DW and the senior dudes for putting me in this perdicament...SG

I have to admit the first practice bids are not what I expected from the 727CA or FO's but that being said it is not over till it's over ! There are about 18 of the 727FO's that bid to the 727CA seat that could hold WB CA not too mention the amount of more senior 727CA that did not bid out on this practice bid.
But of course this is only the first of 3 practice bids.

Also Section 24C states: If an excessed pilot is denied an award to an FDA crew position, pursuant to Section 24.C.6.a. or C.6.c. (above), and he has insufficient seniority to be awarded or assigned another crew position with the same or higher rate of pay, he shall be entitled to passover pay.
So what's the catch for a 72CA being excessed?
