One more suggestion, Jock, change your online Name. It sounds a little pretentious. Flame away Navy guys.

Jock's not bad. Pithy. Spelled right too, Jetjok.....
As for hiring - Fedex might be a year or two. Watch retirements in December - I think most guys, even if they're going out at 60, will stay until the end of that year to get their extra vacation check..... |
I'm not in the know at UPS, but from my vantage point as a line pilot, we won't hire at all this year.
Displacements due to age 65 ruling and the retirement of the 747 Classic and some DC8s has triggered all sorts of training events. The company has banked on lowering the number of crews per plane to tid them through this year of re-alignment. Hopefully, in 09' when we received the first of almost 30 767s, we may see growth in our International flying and subsequent hiring. This is just my humble opinion, and not meant as flame bait, but from my experience at other airlines that had pilots over age 60, many will complete the training and then take full advantage of contractually negotiated provisions to work as little as possibile, i,e vacation & sick time. In the company's staffing model and decision to reduce crews per plane, I'm not convinced they took this into account. Just my opinion, again. Again, I'm just a lowly line pilot and that's the talk on the street. FF |
