Secondly, I doubt UPS is that short sighted. I'm just guessing, but it's likely the new contract will have some kind of fence or incentive language to prevent or preclude all of the over-60 guys from leaving at once.

As far as fencing them into staying after the contract, that's impossible. You can't force somebody to work that is ready to retire. But your suggestion about some sort of incentive in the new contract is interesting. What would your idea be for this incentive. Maybe some sort of severance package that could be canceled on a one for one basis as new FE's are trained starting with the most junior, over 60, FE? Or they could just promise (in writing) them full retro pay if they leave now in an orderly fashion.

DiamondZ,
Sorry so late in this but I have been on the road. Waiting is good. I waited 4 weeks for my letter. It was dated, but mailed out 8 days later. My present employer new before me. Now I am just waiting for a CLASS DATE!! Been here a long time........

It took 6 weeks to get my letter. I also received an email that week explaining that the USPS lost some of the letters, and HR wanted to let me know that I was in the pool.
Don't get too excited if and when you get your "pool" letter. My interview was over a year ago, I guess that tells you how well I did.
On the other hand, a guy I know interviewed in November, and was in class last month. It helps to be one of the Chosen Few.
Good luck
