Default FDX, Int'l Per Diem and Override

Can anyone tell me way we have an International Per Diem rate and an International override at FedEx? Why not combine the two together? What's the history of the two separate Per Diem rates?

Per diem is paid on tafb, but override is based on total trip hours. Just like the difference in per diem and your hourly pay rate.

per diem is (mostly) tax free and international override isn't. also, international override is part of the pensionable earnings (and B fund), while per diem isn't

the per diem rates are separate because food is cheaper domestically (with some exceptions to the rule)

as a validation, check out the IRS pubs on travel expenses, or, if you truly want to geek out, GSA has a city by city breakdown of the "standard" meal rates. IRS also publishes them, but, not quite as user friendly

Hmmmmm which means if you get HKG CA passover pay....... you of course won't get perdiem, but will you get the international overide too?

Per Diem is for covering your living expenses while on a trip.
Override is for having to put up with the hassle of talking to non-english speaking, English speaking foreign controllers (ie. Delhi and Mumbai.)
The question you should be asking is, "Why is our international per diem so low?"

Intl override pays when you block out on the trip.

No block out, no pay. The only exception is showing for a standby at an intl location, so the Bus guys doing hotel stby during SIBA or the pairings out of the HKG bidpack get it.

eg sick or vacation come to mind

Actually, there are 2 questions! You forgot, "Why is our international override so low?"

While we're on this topic ...

Why is our "night differential" (night overide?) so low? Other airlines get paid extra for night ops?

I really prefer to fly during the day time. I'd bet that if night ops paid extra guys would be lining up for the extra $5 and we could both be happy.

Night differential? I laughed so hard I blew soda out my nose!

When the postal contract came along with DAY flying we were offered some extra pay to accept this unusual "day" flying.

That's what we need. A night differential, day differential, AM out&back differential and don't forget a hub turning override.

How about a per check-in special bonus? That would be good for the MEM hub turning lines.
