NO - we looked at those planes when we got the six DC10s from Northwest and did not want them - we got NWAs best - we might be looking at other DC10s

Philip J Fry 05-02-2008 07:02 AM

What's the typical timeline for getting hired at Omni? Does anyone know when the next round of interviews will be? Thanks!

Whats this all about?

seeing what is the market to "wet lease" the aircraft - not sell- still stay with OMNI and operated by them for someone else - trying to get business other then just having to rely on the DOD business

Short Final 05-02-2008 05:42 PM

Looks to me that they are simply looking for business-not giving up airplanes.

Unless the definition has changed, a wet lease is includes the crew. Isn't that the line of work Omni and others do? If so, good for them.

SF

jonnyjetprop 05-03-2008 04:21 AM

"wet lease" and ACMI are the same thing. They included the crew.

ChinsFive 05-03-2008 04:57 PM

I've heard that isn't the best place to work. Any insight on that?

JetPiedmont 05-03-2008 05:09 PM

Howz the contract talks going?

CRJammin 02-08-2009 07:12 AM

Crickets I see on this thread... I'm curious about what people have to say about Omni too. Any Omni pilots out there?

Boris Badenov 02-08-2009 12:04 PM

Not an Omni pilot, but according to the quicktake, they just furloughed 8 CPTs, 8 FEs, and 3 FOs. :(

aviatorhi 02-08-2009 12:35 PM

One of our pilots went to OMNI about May of last year, he was one of the 3 FOs furloughed and came back to fly Navajos and FO on 1900s. He said that he liked the flying, but the pay was weak compared to here and that the schedule is normally something like 18 days on, but they can hold you up to 4 more days so it turns into 22 days on and 8-ish days off, also a pretty raw deal, but he said having seniority (meaning better pay and not being held 4 extra days, usually) and flying all over the world "would" make up for it at a later time if he goes back.

I would question whether or not that individual was furloughed, or terminated. A class date of May, 2008 would put that person above the cutoff for furlough.

Why is this thread in "Cargo"? Omni doesn't fly freight. (Unfortunately)

He did say "about" May 2008...Does Omni terminate often?

IndyAir Guy 02-13-2009 07:28 AM

I didnt go to Omni I went to a similar operation but my best friend did. He liked it and They treated him fairly. However it is ACMI and its the usual things, out a long time (2 to 4 weeks), unknown and ever changing schedules, low pay. Par for the course. If I need a job and didnt mind being gone all the time I would work there. You could be better but you could also do much worse.

Is that where you fly the A-340? How is that a similar operation?

IndyAir Guy 02-17-2009 12:26 PM

Nope, I went to Southern Air and Atlas. I fly the 340 for an Asian carrier and am based in North America. Should be easy to figure out.

A buddy of mine who's flying the whale for JAL out of Hawaii is worried he might be losing his job pretty soon. Is you carrier hiring and would you recommend it to others? I know he's looking for other options as we speak...

IndyAir Guy 02-27-2009 08:56 AM

They are not hiring at the present, though I would recommend them. I know Korean is hiring with fair travel policies so your some a decent amount. Have him try that, but I dont think you have the option to upgrade. You fly the seat your hired into.

you guys are good.

frozensolid 03-18-2009 05:28 PM

I know the Omni FO that is topic here. He was the June class and as a result was furloughed. Unfortunately he only got one trip in after IOE so doesn't really have a feel for the company yet. The good news is Omni is hoping to bring all back by summer.

8 Captains and 3 FO's? Do they not consider seniority for a furlough? Or, do they upgrade without regard to seniority?

ATI stalwart 03-19-2009 03:10 AM

not sure since they voted in the union, but as of a year and a half ago, when i interviewed there, ther was no regard to seinority.

seoceancrosser 03-19-2009 08:37 AM

We are unionized, but without a contract at the present time we still operate on pre-existing policies and practices set forth by the company. Basically they are currently the sole author of the rule book until a contract is agreed upon and mediations are completed with. To answer the above question, yes they furloughed out of seniority. The good news is, even without a contract, the company intends to give those guys thier jobs back before they hire new people. Hopefully it'll be soon!!!

SE

Blueridge877 03-28-2009 11:41 AM

That's not exactly true. They furloughed from the bottom of the DC-10 seniority list, in-order. Some of them were direct-entry captains, from ATA. However, the last 757 new-hire class are junior to some of the furloughed DC-10 crew members, on the Master seniority list.

seoceancrosser 03-29-2009 08:27 AM

That's out of seniority in my book. I'm sure those guys wouldn't have minded going to class on the 757 instead of looking for a job....again. Do you know why the furloughs went from 22 originally to 19 right now?

Check out Teamsters Local Union No. 747 Home. It has all of the info.

seoceancrosser 03-29-2009 05:58 PM

Thanks Boss, I'll venture over there and take a gander.

moonkey 10-19-2009 12:37 PM

Any latest and greatest about Omni?

saxman66 11-04-2009 05:44 AM

According to APC Omni is hiring and I heard from another guy they are. But nothing says so on their website. Anyone got any info?

Phlintsone 11-05-2009 04:35 AM

IIRC, they had an application window open a month or so ago. It appears to be closed. If you want to just send in your resume, they have a general employment email address...[email protected]
