SPOKANE VALLEY -- A Spokane Valley UPS worker appeared to be making a nice gesture by bringing in brownies for his co-workers, however he was arrested on a felony charge when it was discovered that marijuana was cooked into the treats.
The employee, 24-year-old Virgil Feezell, admitted that he brought the brownies to the United Parcel Service distribution center at 1016 N. Bradley, however he denies knowing they were laced with pot.
Spokane Valley police were brought in when a fellow employee had his girlfriend take him to the hospital after eating one of the brownies. He called his girlfriend, who gave him a ride to the hospital, and it was confirmed that he had marijuana in his system. He was treated and released.
Officer Joe Bodman of the Spokane Valley Police Department "conducted a field examination of the brownies which indicated the presence of marijuana," SVPD said through a Friday morning press release.
Virgil Feezell denies he laced some brownies with marijuana and brought them to work even though two tests confirmed marijuana was in the brownies.
"This is the most serious trouble I've ever been into it's scary," Feezel said. "I was definitely not trying to hurt anybody. That was not my intention."
While Feezell denied knowledge of cooking illegal drugs into the dessert, a UPS security advisor said the suspect had told him about his plan.
"All the way around a bad idea, dumb idea, criminal idea, not a good thing," Sergeant Dave Reagan with the Spokane County Sheriff's Office said.
Feezell has been booked into Spokane County Jail on a felony count of Second Degree Assault however sheriff's deputies are debating also charging him with drug dealing, adding that a delivery service was the place for this prank.
"There's a lot of drivers, I understand, that come and go from those break rooms. This was a crazy idea, potentially putting then on the road in an impaired state and them not even recognizing they're impaired could have had horrible consequences," Sgt. Reagan said.
