Gemini Bad News

Sounds like the end is nearing for Gemini:

June 17, 2008

Dear Employee:

We regret to inform you that, due to the extreme financial instability of Gemini Air Cargo, Inc. (“Gemini”), your position is being eliminated, and your employment with Gemini will end effective today, June 17, 2008.

In this difficult economic climate, marked most prominently by skyrocketing fuel costs, Gemini’s operating performance, working capital, and overall financial stability have eroded significantly. In an effort to persevere and sustain its current operational capacity, Gemini has actively pursued a variety of financial remedies including financing, additional capital, loan forgiveness and sale of the business. Unfortunately, however, such remedies, to date, have either run their course or been unattainable. Consequently, as of today, Gemini does not have the financial wherewithal to run its business at current operational levels, and program cuts must be implemented immediately which regrettably involves the elimination of jobs, such as yours, throughout the United States and abroad.

We are sorry that circumstances were such that we were unable to give you more advanced warning, but, as discussed above, our efforts were focused on securing the financial solutions that ultimately would have allowed Gemini to avoid the drastic action it must now take.

To the extent you are employed under the Agreement between Gemini and the Air Line Pilots, effective as of September 1, 2006 (the “Agreement”), which does not provide for “bumping” rights, this letter constitutes: (i) notice of discharge under section 19(A)(2) of the Agreement if you are currently within your "Probationary Period" (as defined in the Agreement), with your employment ending today, June 17, 2008; or (ii) notice of furlough under section 23(A) of the Agreement if you are beyond your Probationary Period; your furlough will begin today, June 17, 2008, and you will not be receiving any pay in lieu of notice.

You will also receive a copy of this notice by mail. You will receive additional information concerning your separation and post-employment benefits under separate cover. If you have any questions, please contact Brian Rolston at 703.260.8400.

Thank you for your service to Gemini.

Sincerely,

DXXXXd X. XXXXXon
Vice President and General Counsel

I take it that this was not sent to you? Bad deal though.

Was it sent via email?

hschol 06-17-2008 07:30 PM

They let them know via email. Dirt bags.

Yeah, real dirt bags. The two furlough letters I've received in my career both came certified mail. Really eased the pain.

Thing is... before Carlysle bought the place in ~1999, that airline was Shangri-La - and they were printing money....

Some of the best pilots I ever worked with are over there. God help them.

Sounds like they have some investor looking at them. They should be down to about 40 pilot, enough to keep them running till the end of the month. Then it may be over... Good guys.

Stockbridge treated them well.

40 pilots would not even cover the 11 flying. We are down to about 105.

Very GRIM!!!!!!!!!!

hschol 06-17-2008 09:32 PM

Sorry RF. Got the numbers wrong. Not Good over there. At 105 do they have enough to cover the MD flying?

12th Man 06-17-2008 09:59 PM

Brobrah... er... hschol ;)- it may be enough to cover the MD stuff, but it's pretty grim nevertheless.

The -10's were freakin' eviscerated. Some of those FE's were the best guys around. A sad, sad day for all concerned.

hschol 06-18-2008 02:09 AM

BroBrah!!! Just talkin' about you today. Being there, must be like Jerking off with a cheese grater. Ba$tards. Send me an email. We need to catch up.
