Yes! It's a wonderful gig, you get about 14-17 days off per month. Lots of excitement, great crews, wonderful payrates, fantastic retirement.

Oh what a second........

Your 14-17 days off you will be recovering from the backside of the clock.
Excitement? Try sitting in a lawn chair in your dark garage with the garage door shut for 12 hours, then opening it back up.

Crew's....We'll if you don't mind Captains ripping your microphone out of your hand when calling GOC...oh yeah...that speaks of leadership and you know him by name.

Payrates, now you get to bring up this in every conversation with everyone you meet, everyday of the rest of your life, to let each and everyone know that YOU are a FedEx pilot and your better than they are.

And your retirement, is the highest in the industry. You might ask, how can they afford to pay this? Well, if you ask the union, their little study shows that FDX pilots only live on average 3 years after retirement. So your dead meat anyways, It's just "chump change."

What a deal!!!

Life is what you make it. I cant imagine a better place to work for me. I have had 2 Jerk captains in 7 years. The rest have been trainable.

I love it here.

I have also seen glimpses of what Straight Shooter mentioned. Working at ANY airline is hardly glamorous when you are doing it over and over. That said--it can be very satisfying work if you understand the limitations.

Happiest guys I see at FDX are guys who love what they do but have a life outside of work too. Church, family, hobbies, and friends will help you define a happier life than a W-2. The pay and benefits are nice, but someone hired in 1998, 2000, 2004, or 2008 will all have very differet careers here. Try not to get too wrapped around the axle on any one company, but rather keep a list of what GOALS you want out of life, then see what company can help you best reach those when the time comes. I had a friend recently hired at SWA who is in the pool here...he's got me (2002 hire) and a 20+ year friend as data points on "life at FedEx". I have reminded him that it IS a great company, but the environment he will be working in will be very different than the situation me or his other friend are in. Being stuck junior at any airline is tough--stuck at a freight carrier as a commuter is a very tough road. You need to look at the end goal as you make your career choices, but also ask what the near term will be like...you may be there a while.

What the ..... are you talking about?

If you are referring to one Capt, then that is a pretty poor way to generalize the entire Company in that light.

If you have a problem with "A" captain, then be a man and handle it. If you think that this is a company-wide problem, then you need to handle it within the union, not hanging it out with someone asking about the landscape of working at our company.

You really should respond to this one......

Pss poor attitude is my guess....

I usually beat them with it, after I've ripped it out of their hand.

LAXROX43, just don't do any civilian flying outside the United States as that is a condition of FedEx holding the Postal Contract.

Back when FedEx was hiring, I tried to get a buddy from my old airline on. The process was going fine until his European and Asian flying came to light. The assistant chief pilot told me that he was very sorry but this was because of security concerns since 9/11.

Good luck,

Actually as an outsider, it just drives me bonkers when FedEx pilots come ride my jumpseat. Occasionally I will have on board a really really nice guy who loves flying because it's his passion, lots of fun to visit with. But unfortunately, 90% of the FDX jumpseats contantly go on and on and on about how much money they make. It just gets so annoying.

I'm from a very small country town. To be making anything over 30,000 dollars is something that blows me and my family away. Everytime I open my paycheck now, I just can't believe I get paid to fly. But these jerks over at FDX, are just no fun to be around. Everytime I ask them about what's the most fun part about working there, they directly bring up the money. Then when I say, "tell me about the flying, hows the flying?" The usually answer is, "oh yeah we've got this one trip, where you can get extra pay on it...." How annoying.

A few years ago, right after FDX signed a new contract, I asked the jumpseater if he was glad the negotiations were over. He said, "yes, but what a joke, a 10% raise? I can't even buy a new car with a 10% raise."

My 1st year first officer said "I can't even buy a car...period!" That shut him up real fast.

It's so damn annoying to hear, "over at big purple" or "I work for this little airline, called FedEx" .... most of the guys hired there that think they are God's gift to aviation now, we're rejected from most all airlines 15-20 years ago.

So did you fail the CRM section or was the verbal section of the test to hard. I cant imagine we just rejected a dude with your personality.
