First off, there "ain't" no backwoods or hillbillies in WESTERN Tennessee - that's all eastern Tennessee.
And second, most of the Memphis based pilots live elsewhere and commute. I personally would rather live amongst a bunch of backwoods hillbillies than live in Memphis!

That is too funny! Ditto about having a good tour!!

Thanks for bringing back that memory.
Hey, did y'all notice the original post was over two years ago?
(Notice the correct spelling of y'all, StraightShooter. )
Sometimes I wonder if we wouldn't all be better off if Davy Crocket and his Tennessee Volunteers had stayed at home. I mean, can we really consider getting Texas a "win"?

And you wonder... There is a reason some of us have not applied to FedEx. At one point I was intrigued by FedEx. Then I met a few FedEx pilots. Then I met a few more. Don't get me wrong, ya'll have great job security and pay, I wouldn't mind a share of that either, but if the attitude comes with it I am going to defer to everyone who wants that work environment. I wouldn't turn down an invitation to join, I just ain't interested in putting any energy into getting one from ya'll. Not worth it.
One more thing...since when did a backwoods Tennessee hillbilly start thinking his lot in life could compare to a Texan's?
I am sure there is a handful of good guys over there. Maybe some manners will rub off on the rest.

Yes! It's a wonderful gig, you get about 14-17 days off per month. Lots of excitement, great crews, wonderful payrates, fantastic retirement.
Oh what a second........
Your 14-17 days off you will be recovering from the backside of the clock.
Excitement? Try sitting in a lawn chair in your dark garage with the garage door shut for 12 hours, then opening it back up.
Crew's....We'll if you don't mind Captains ripping your microphone out of your hand when calling GOC...oh yeah...that speaks of leadership and you know him by name.
Payrates, now you get to bring up this in every conversation with everyone you meet, everyday of the rest of your life, to let each and everyone know that YOU are a FedEx pilot and your better than they are.
And your retirement, is the highest in the industry. You might ask, how can they afford to pay this? Well, if you ask the union, their little study shows that FDX pilots only live on average 3 years after retirement. So your dead meat anyways, It's just "chump change."
What a deal!!!

I didn't say everyone in Texas is a moron...I do like Hank Hill. He got good manners. However, I don't care for that squirrel, Sandy, on Spongebob. She talks about Texas too much. And, then there's GW...
We're very appreciative of your "intrigue" in FedEx...We'll call you when we begin hiring again.
Have a nice day.

Oh, and to the original poster. As I stated in the middle of that rant, FedEx is stable and you make great money. In the end we work to get paid so FedEx qualifies as a good place to work. UPS, NetJets, some Legacies, and some internationals (Cathay, etc.) also make that list. Each company comes with it's own corporate culture and employee culture so learn about each and go where you think it's the best fit for you.
The only difference in Cathay's favor is that at the end of your day in Memphis you get to dodge bullets, potholes, and street hoes on your way home to the safety of Mississippi, while at Cathay you get to ride into downtown HK with hot flight attendants on a badass train. Other than that, FedEx is #1.
