Ah...true. sorry -but you are correct...BOTH speak spanish...BOTH are heavy in the drug trade...

I think we should invade Mexico, Central, and South America.

Eldorado Intl (SKBO) field elevation is 8360'. Actually, I've been amazed that we haven't had a B747-200 accident there in recent memory. The 747 classics are getting very old are being routinely operated right at the performance limit. 742s being routinely operated out of these high altitude South American airports have the engines just thrashed several times a day.

Was this engine failure immediatly after take off or was later in the flight as one report indicated?

Shortly after takeoff, not sure how shortly but the plane crashed in Madrid which is only about 15 miles from the city limits of Bogota. The thin air up here is killer, not to mention surrounded by mountains and always cloudy, all the time.

Since these poor guys happened to kill 2 locals in this accident, can we expect to see them in a local jail until the Colombian aviation authority proves them 100% not at fault? This sucks--prayers to the crew's families.

Has it been figured out yet if all made it out? I am seeing conflicting reports. I hope everyone made it out ok.

Be careful out there, these things (crashes) always seem to happen in "threes". Blue skies and tail winds to all on this forum.

I think Kalitta lost another 747 a couple weeks ago. He lost his son and 2 aircraft all in the course of a few weeks. You have to feel for the guy.

Default Bad Month for the Kalitta Family

Two 747s...but not to mention the founder lost his son in that Funny-Car crash two weeks ago.

Very sorry to hear about his.

The news report I watched said crew is fine but two people on the ground lost their lives. Very sad indeed.
