Looking for some help here....
I am applying at UPS. I used to work there back in the day, but not as a pilot. I scoured the boards until I couldn't read anymore and still have some unanswered questions....
Any help would be greatly appreciated... 1) Since I used to work there, are there any additional steps besides putting the prior employment on the resume? 2) If I have an old FE written (over two years old), but it's still valid since I am working for a 121 carrier. Do I need a new one? 3) How senior is MIA? 4) With the one payscale deal, how do they decide which A/C to stick you on? Thanks in advance for the wisdom.... |

1) No 2) I'm not sure but I don't see why 3) Pretty senior, I think ONT is more senior. 4) Needs of the service, I would think. Luck of the draw has a lot to do with it. I'm not very in touch with hiring questions but I thought you deserved at least someone to answer you. |

Here you are, these are SWAGS:
1. No you dont need to do anything else, except if one of your old managers is like a District Manager now and he remembers you and will try and pull some strings. 2. I dont think you will need a new FE written. 3. MIA is pretty senior and getting more senior all the time. 4. I beleive they place you on a particular aircraft based on experience, previous flying type (i.e. DC8 etc...). As always, having personal recommendations are a requirement and must be from someone who has actually flown with you a number of times. Good Luck! |

Your answers did generate a few more questions (yes, I'm keeping the beer tally...) The personal recommendations, do they need to be from someone at UPS or will my current employer suffice? Do you do bid lines or have pref bidding? Finally, if I do get the magic call, and against all odds get hired, will you let me wait to the 2nd year to cash in beer owed? Regards... |

It should be from a UPS pilot if possible and we do bid lines. And you will need 4th year F/O pay for all this beer. |
Great news....
All I have to do is fly with some UPS pilots....Not very many people from my company went to UPS. Those that did, I never flew with... Nuts. I can cash the beer in early...I know enough about the industry to have the furlough/strike fund.... Oh well...watched pot never boils.... Thanks again for the quick help... |
Dont Give up
Dont give up, the UPS pilot is a major help and may be a determiner, but is not a complete show stopper. Get a management person from your current company and that should help.:confused:

I'm not discouraged....I just dropped my stuff in recently. I'm just gathering intel.
I had an UPS jumpseater, DC-8 guy. We chatted, he gave me his info, and I washed it in my shirt pocket....How about them apples? I just think it'd be cool to fly for a blue-chip company that makes a profit, and flies airplanes... Can you tell I have a day off at the crashpad?? |

Attitude means a lot. Don't let the negative talk on here discourage you . UPS is a great company but it is large and it does make mistakes, but it is a wonderful place to work.

I've worked there before, so I kinda know....I don't know any company that has it's praises sung on the boards. If it is, one gets more flame than the "Blue Oyster"
