flying cargo in central america

Does anyone know cargo outfits who fly cargo from the US to central america and are hiring?

The cartels are always hiring... high pay and benefits, but alas, no union... plus some of their pilots have been known to disappear during business model adjustments.

If you really want to fly cargo down there from Miami, make it a point to go to the job fair at Aeroservice Inc. Most companies are not hiring at this moment, but the turnover, especially at Amerijet, causes them to hire on the spot. Go spend a week in MIA, bang on a few doors, such as IBC, Amerijet, and Arrow, and let them see your face. Those jobs tend to go to visible people. Also, there is a Convair operator, forget the name, next to the Fedex building that was recently looking for pilots. If that doesn't work, hang out at Bryson's, across from the crystal palace. It was the hangout for cargo pilots. Those guys will talk all night for a free beer. The point, in short, is to bang on doors, someone in Miami always needs a pilot.

How do these guys phase out with pay?

Try Mountain Air Cargo. They are a FedEx feeder based in the Southeast. They fly to Central America and have pretty good pay/benefits. Also, since the planes are owned by FedEx, they are pretty well equipped, and the maintenance is top-notch. The only drawback is that they put you where they need you based on staffing needs. Once you get some seniority though, I'm sure you could get a route going to Central America.
