Default Help! Info. on UPS Pool.

I have been swimming in the UPS pool for almost 1.5 years now. I am thrilled to be in the pool and consider myself lucky.

But.... I am about to lose my flying job through the DHL/ABX fiasco and am concerned for my future. I was wondering if anyone would have the answers to the following questions:

1. What has UPS done in he past with the long-time poolies? Hire/re-interview/dump?

2. I have read and heard that it does not reflect positively on a candidate if they were to call HR and query as to their status, is that true?

Thanks for any answers and help/encouragement.

Last time this happened, they had to re-interview. Not all made it a second time.

I know of at least two recent hires that were in the pool longer than 1.5 years and got hired. They did not have to re-interview.

Denny,

Thanks for the information. I appreciate the quick response. It is encouraging to hear that long pool swimmers have eventually been hired. From what I hear, it is definately worth the wait.

Waitin' by the phone....

Biff's right.. Hang tough, I've heard of several recent new hires that were in the pool well over 2 years.

Sorry you've had to wait this long. I believe long term poolies have had to re-interview only once and I heard that very few (2 or so?) were not hired due to some major violations they got on their records while waiting in the pool.

I seriously doubt you'll have to re-interview and if you do you'll be just fine. We all hope to see all our poolies flying the line really soon.

Pre 9/11 Poolies had to re-interview. I was a pre 9/11 poolie and did get hired, after my re-interview.

I suspect whether you have to re-interview or not will depend on if the HR powers when you were interviewed, are still in power when they start hiring again....

I'm eagerly waiting too.

Not to put a dampener on things, but, by my Math if we don't hear anything by Columbus Day we're probably not going to hear anything till April Fools Day next year.

My reasoning is that UPS does not seem to do very much training near to peak. So to get us out of the school house by peak we really need to be in Class by Oct at the absolute latest.

If they don't need/want us for this peak, it will take most of the first quarter next year to finish training guys from the classic 74 (and the displacements) that they kept for peak this year. Then by the middle of the second quarter the 767s will start to show up in earnest, and they will get a better delivery date for the Cargolux 74-4s since the 74-8 should be in flight testing/certification runs.
That will give them a time line for hiring.
My hope was that they were going to actually take delivery of those 4 Transmile MD11s for added lift with the DHL deal this peak; and cancel the displacement of MD11 and 747 guys. Then get new hires onto the panel instead, while they run a new system bid with the new MD11s available for bidding.

But what do I know. Logic is not always in play.
