Question Whats it take to straighten up and fly right?

I live on Oahu and am VERY interested in getting hired as an FO based in HNL, although I'm not opposed to ANC either. I've got 3750 TT, only ~700 Turbine and 500 MEL. My specialty is floats in Alaska so I've got lots of ROUND engine time but I also have some 135 jet experience as well.
Does anyone have some input on what NAC likes to see for candidates? Any helpful hints or points of contact that I could explore?

The chief pilot who hired me in 1989 at my long term former pax employer told me that he chose me because I had been an ag pilot. I was flying big jets at the time but the twenty guys I interviewed with were mostly former Easter guys and current and qualified on either the B727, B757 or L1011. They hired only ten in our interview group and one was a crop duster.
I had Electra time and was current on the DC-8 with about 4000 tt, most in cropdusters. I don’t know what NAC is looking for but I think round eng floats and round eng cropdusters are kinda the same animal. Always apply.

They’ve hired people from all walks in the past, but with all the growth and management types from outside of Alaska coming into NAC, there’s really no telling what direction things will take in that respect. I would caution you that at the moment they’re positively desperate for fo’s On the 767 in Miami, and they are adequately staffed in HNL. They could very well assign you to the 767 out of training. Cant say I have any other tips outside of working whatever networking you may have to try and get a foot in the door.

Best of luck!

Default Desperate

I am sitting right here and they are not calling. I told them I would love to be in Miami and that ANC would not work for me, and have not heard from them again. And there is also all the 21Air guys who may, or may not if you read yesterdays APC update, may be looking for jobs. They must not be too desperate. I also have time in type AND 737 rated. I like NAC but think they may be a little too picky.

Next time never tell a possible future employer one of their bases won't work for you. You are flexible, able to make it work.

They probably think your to picky too. If the MIA base goes away so does their investment in you.

Self-described as "desperate".
Won't accept an ANC base.

One of these things doesn't match.

The CP is not from Alaska and doesnt even live there so not sure if float time will matter.
Cant hurt to apply if you want to work there. That being said, the above post is correct. They need 767 pilots in MIA. They have basically run out of pilots in AK and Hawaii that want to be based in MIA. They told pilots they will not junior assign to MIA. But you never know what management will do. Current policy is that everyone starts in the 737, but they just said they are reviewing that because doesnt make sense when they need pilots in 767 in MIA.
Also, HNL base is not currently staffed enough. Current vacancy bid has 4 737 FO slots. Plus Hawaiian just opened their window so more will leave HNL.
There is no LAX base. I know it says that in the job posting, but they have only talked about it as a future possibility. Plus, they dont have ETOPS yet so HNL-LAX flight is flown by ATI.
Currently in the process of merging the HNL pilots onto the NAC certificate. There is one integrated seniority list and new CBA, but currently still flying the planes under 2 certificates. They say that will be done by April.

Yeah. They keep saying ETOPS will be sometime in Q1, but I heard Southwest just failed their tabletops, so that doesn’t exactly make me feel warm and fuzzy about ours. I have a feeling the “HNL” pilots will be here in Miami for a lot longer than planned.
