I am sitting right here and they are not calling. I told them I would love to be in Miami and that ANC would not work for me, and have not heard from them again. And there is also all the 21Air guys who may, or may not if you read yesterdays APC update, may be looking for jobs. They must not be too desperate. I also have time in type AND 737 rated. I like NAC but think they may be a little too picky.
Braniff,
No hard feelings as I liked you and wanted you on the team, but just want to clarify a few things so others dont make the same type of mistake.
I (former CP) offered you a position on the 737 telling you that most likely you would be on the 767 as an FO when our MIA base opened in several months, but I said no guarantee. You turned down the position saying you did not want to commute. I asked you to really think about it before saying no as I felt most Alaska pilots wanted nothing to do with Miami and there could be good potential. You formally turned it down the next day or so if I remember correctly.
You would now have been on year 2 pay as a 767 MIA Captain at 167/hr averaging 85 or so credit hours a month (there are a couple of 767 Captains that would have been junior to you if you took that offer)The 767 is going incredibility junior. You would also have had many chances at 150% premium pay for picking up extra trips and still be home in MIA almost every night.
I realize its not a major, but its also not bad for a little over a year employee at almost any operation.
NAC pay tops out at 258/hr at DOS+5 for 12 year 767 Captains which isn't earthshaking, but again, not bad for a two 767 airplane operation. You would have been a senior Captain in 5 years if that helps.
Are we unorganized and a scheduling mess, yes, but its a developing operation and to be expected to some extent, again one of the minuses for a rapid seniority gain. You told me you understood that part too.
For everyone else, live and learn, never be too picky when an opportunity arises that may have potential for what you are looking for in the near future even if you may have to compromise a little. I would also heed some of the wise advise others have stated on this subject also. That would apply to any airline.
I am in no position to help you at this point as I am only a line guy now (thank goodness) and you will have to deal with HR. They may be a little picky when it comes to someone that turned down a prior offer, I dont know. That's up to them, we all make mistakes, I hope they will take that into consideration.
By the way, I do commute from Anchorage to MIA, it is not an issue at all for seat availability, other then it is a long 2 leg commute. That's my choice and its well worth the opportunity to remain in Alaska, earthquakes and all.
Hope it works out for you.

Um
No ouch, it was a decision I made as things were uncertain at the time. MIA was still a maybe. It could have gone the other way as well. I just wasn’t going to take a chance on commuting to ANC for maybe MIA, maybe 767 and maybe a new contract.
I did appreciate the offer but it took nine months from interview to hear back and I called every month and would stop by, not a word. I was honest and did not take the training and then just walk off if I didn’t get what I wanted. You seemed ok with that, I guess not?
I would also ask why you just quit the C.P.s office when things are so positive. I did try and stay in touch with you.
Honestly, I applied to NAC for years and would love to have joined but there was just too much uncertainty at the time. Now that MIA 767 is open, I reapplied and was contacted again but nothing. It’s ok, I get it. Nothing against NAC at all, I think it’s a nice company but there are other choices and again, at the time, I did what I thought was correct.
Again, the discussion turned into desperate for MIA crew which can’t really be the case. People turn down positions all the time in the airline business and reapply later for bases, equipment etc.
