Fedex job transfer
 

Is there any recent information on getting an interview for a pilot position with the Fedex Flight Department (after they restart hiring) while employed at another Fedex job?
Is the minimum time requirement in another position still 6 months?
Can you qualify if you have a "part time" job with Fedex?
Do they have a preference or requirement that the job be with Fedex Express or could you have a position with Fedex Ground, or Freight, or even Fedex Kinko's?
And last, is a two year aviation degree a no-go/deal breaker?

I'm an about to be out of work 13 year DC-8 FO at DHL/Astar with the usual ratings and hours expected from that job and I'm looking at a part time job loading trucks for Fedex Ground while flying out the last few months of my DHL career.

Here is what I believe to be true regarding your questions:

Job must be full time with FedEx Express

1 year min time before eligible for other jobs

Must meet all qualifications for pilot job. (4 year or equivalent)

You can apply for a Professional IP (teaching line pilots), Corp Pilot (flying execs) or Line Pilot. They all have the same interview and if you can transfer to a line pilot job after 3 years if you get the Corp or Pro position.

They have to be hiring or "post" the job to apply.

The job with FedEx Express must be "Permanent" as opposed to "Temporary" or "Casual" -- the Permanent position may be Full-Time or Part-Time.

The minimum obligation according to corporate policy is 1 year. Certain jobs may have longer obligations, like 18 months or 2 years. The Professional Instructor and Corporate Pilot positions have 3-year obligations, but they also have the advantage of conducting the pilot interview at the front end of the deal. If you fail the pilot interview, you know where you stand and can make other plans. For other jobs (handlers, etc.) you won't get to interview until you've put in the requisite time.


To reiterate, the 2-year degree is a deal breker.

Slightly off topic, but has anybody tried to update their profile recently and not been able to get in?

Yes, I know they switched to new sign on method. When I updated a few months back I switched my info to comply with the new format.

And yes, I know they are not hiring.

I tried to update the other day and couldn't log in either. I also changed to the new sign in format a few months ago. Last time I got in was 1st week of June.

If you are working at a position with FedEx with "normal" hours you could use your time to finish up the 4-year degree. FedEx offers some type of tuition assistance (but I do not know the details, maybe someone else on the board can assist???) to employees.

To add on. Get your 4 year degree - from anywhere. Phoenix University, etc. online, whatever, but get it. They really don't care where you got it from as long as you're not an idiot(well, an obvious idiot - don't study the gouge in front of the Chief Pilot's secretary on interview day like a bright USMC guy did years ago).

Like others said, be careful of what job you get. Some of the ones that you can actually live off of (say a courier driving the delivery vans) have commitment longer than a year. Also, be careful to work for FedEx EXPRESS. Not FedEx Office/Kinkos, FedEx Ground, or any of our other companies - you cannot transfer between companies.

FedEx Express does offer excellent educational benefits.

A degree from anywhere will not work. The degree must be from an institution that is accredited by an agency recognized by FedEx. Some on-line degree programs are acceptable, and some are not. FedEx maintains a list of acceptable institutions and accreditation agencies.

ERAU has many extended campuses scattered around the country in addition to offerring many courses online. A bit expensive, but it is quick and fits nicely with the part-time hours and tuition reimbursement, it worked for me . . .
