UPS: The F word

An open time ban will not prevent furloughs. More flying will prevent it though.
I fully expect to lose my seat in 2009, and I am preparing financially. We are saving every penny and we are clipping coupons. We are also paying off as much debt as possible, because I have no doubt that I will be an FO again in 2009.
I don't want to get political, but a McCain presidency is likely, and this will not bode well for airline pilots or any union member for that matter.
Times look very bleak to me, indeed.

You mentioned preparing for the roll back to F/O. (Me too since barely holding my seat in domicile)
I live like a more junior F/O though and will go right seat since don't want to commute. Didn't mean to mock, not really my style if you look at my posting history. Figured it as more TIC humour than offensive sarcasm. No offense intended.
Personally, don't care unless we announce a furlough.

You blame ALPA for fighting the UPS/DHL deal? Why would they not pray tell, when they have over 500 pilots at Astar? If the deal falls through, I'm sorry if you get bumped down to FO, but I'd like to keep my 20 year career right here if it's all the same to you. I'm sure the 600 pilots at ABX and the other 8,000 people that stand to lose their jobs most likely feel the way I do about it as well.

IF it happens, we'll deal with it then, until then all you can do is pay off your credit cards, save up some money and look for a back-up job - I'm doing all that just in case but I'd be lying if I said I'm losing any sleep over this...

Please don't turn this thread into another DHL=Adoft Hitler with UPS as the accomplice debate.
Sick of that.

There's nothing you can do to prevent it from happening. But there's a lot you can do to keep your family from starving. And the process for that should have started yesterday if one is anywhere near the bottom.
As for talks in the cockpit of the impending diaster, I guess we up here in Siberia are far enough from Mecca that the worries haven't hit us too hard yet!

...but hey, there's always more open time, right? ««« that's a humorous smiley
Ps I don't want to debate the candidates - I just had to point out that not everyone agrees with your view...
