FDX Bidding when going to training
 

Any tips for bidding when going to training? Do I just go for the highest credit hour? Do we get paid carryover also?

Bid highest paying, but you will not get paid carryover. Also, for the first month, you will have to fly any trips that are on your line prior to your first day of training, so you might want to bid a line that conflicts with your training to the maximum extent.

Not for pay purposes! You only get over ride if you fly it!

Depending on when your class date is, I would try to bid all of the flying for after the start date, and then all the days prior to training will be off. If a trip starts prior to training and touches training, then I think sub comes into pay. Someone else may want to answer that. During training, bid for highest paying, c/o doesn't count!

MD11Fr8Dog is right about the sub in the first month.

There are times when the VIPS codes won't give you the highest paying line you could of got. The best thing to do is use FastBid and sort the lines by highest paying line with and without carryover. You end up doing two sorts and manually merging the sorts.

If you only bid highest paying without carryover, you may miss some lines that are high paying and have a very short carryover on Sunday night.

You only need to worry about it for the lines that pay more than 68/85 hours right now. Once you get below that, it's all the same so throw the code for highest w/o carryover, any VTO and any RSV.

Of course when all the lines are 68 or 85 hours, it's real easy to bid. The placement of the trips is most important now.

2 sorts are not required in FastBid - just select MAXBLG and no secondary sort parameters. It will sort the lines in Highest to Lowest BLG order with and without c/o. :)

You can bid the lines with c/o and you will be paid the portion of the c/o trip that falls in that month. You just don't get the remainder of the c/o in the following month.

One other thing to look at is sometimes RLG is greater than the lower paying lines and VTO's are built to average BLG if you are in training the entire month.

It takes a little work if you are junior but you can maximize pay for training.

Actually, in Fastbid, if you sort only for MAX BLG, it will give you a sort by that month's BLG, regardless of CO. I just confirmed it with the 727 Nov Bidpack. The only thing it doesn't know is that lines below 85 CH are bought up, so it keeps sorting from 84:59 all the way down to 80 (in the 727 case) for the lowest line.

I agree with all the other advice, like get a line where your ITU training covers most of your trips, and watch for conflicting a long trip with only the first couple days of training, producing the dreaded multi-period SUB.

When leaving training, bid max days off with highest BLG if you get activated after the bid closes. They can't build your custom line with with more work days than the line awarded. I had an 18 days off line, got paid 68CH but only had 39CH worth of trips on it.

Ok, that is why I was doing it the way I said. I was under the impression that since you didn't get the C/O, you also lost any portion of that trip that was in the current (for bidding) month.
