FDX- stop sending frivolous Crew Notifications
I am on reserve and its freaking me out.:p
|
Quit checking vips.
|
I don't know, I kind of liked this one:
"You have been removed from trip xxx beginning xxOCT08 due to equipment change. Notification posted 02OCT08 2353z. You received it 03OCT08 0021z." They do seem to be pumping them up though. FJ |
My personal favorite:
You will be unqualified as of 20OCT08 due to the expiration of your Recency of Experience, in other words, you will lack 3 landings in the last 90 days. You are required to make reasonable efforts to maintain qualification. If you are a reserve, consider using First Fly as part of your plan to maintain qualification. If you lose qualification due to lack of landings, all trips and/or R-Days which are scheduled to show within 48 hours of the above date will be dropped without pay. That time will be eligible for make-up; however, you will only be compensated for days spent requalifying if you made reasonable efforts to maintain qualification. |

ALWAYS check the CALENDAR first!
but if you think about it, notification after notification, you start to get the same feeling you get when you read DFW notams day after day... all 600 of them. Remember when notifications were something you paid attention to? anyone can get access to notifications.. your receipts are due... you have credit card charge.. your uniform allowance is expiring, you need to buy a hat... at what point do they start using them for important things again? |
I think we need break out the difference between "scheduling notification" and "admin notifications"
|
You can check your calendar first, but consider yourself "notified" if there is a trip there. They can tell that you logged on and looked up your calendar, even though you didn't click on "crew notifications."

Has anyone ever been told they were considered notified because they viewed their calendar or is this just another urban myth? |

Where does this come from? I know schedules can tell if you're logged on but I don't believe they can tell what pages you've viewed and which ones you haven 't.
I have watched a friend with "scheduler level" Vips access pull up my employee number and show me the pages I visited on my last Vips access. They were all listed by their web address, i.e. Webcal for Calender, webdd for open time, etc. It's no myth! |
It's True

Under the scheduling FAQ that use to be the website, but since been taken down by the lawyers. It said something like 'notification occurs when called and assigned by a scheduler, or clicking the acknowledge button on a crew notification' But they can definitely see every keystroke, button click you do the company system. |
So here's my new idea. I'm going to start a consulting business. A very specialized business that only deals with finding out if a FedEx pilot, has been assigned a trip. Here's how it will work... You call me and I check your calendar to see if they've actually had the nerve to make you work for the money that they pay you. If indeed they've assigned you a trip, I immediately call you back with the appropriate information. Then, once a month, I bill you, say a couple of bucks, for the convenience of having someone else check your schedule for you, and thereby providing you with a plausible deniability. Yeah, that's what I'll do from now on.

I think the big question here is whether or not skeds has to call you if you simply looked at your trip vs. clicking on the notification. Until I get a "you are now notified" of the trip, then I'm not. If I haven't clicked on the link, then doesn't crew skeds have to call me if I'm on reserve? Ignore the call, then sure, you're in trouble. Otherwise, I don't see what the big deal is. |

JJ Last Dec, 5 days prior to Christmas, my B727 SO crashpad roomie, on B reserve with 5 days left, had just told me that he appeared clear and free for the day as all trips had been assigned and he was number 5 on the list. It was about 1pm. An hour or so later he was p!ssed off as could be. He rechecked VIPS and saw a Crew Notification and clicked it. He had been assigned a 5 day trip that had a midnightish show time, 3 legged it and ended up in Portland, ME at about 930a. It returned to MEM at midnight Christmas Eve. Not a great place to spend Christmas for a commuter. By clicking the Crew Notification and officially being notified, a legal rest period then ensued and the assigned trip was his. If he had NOT clicked on the trip, then the onus was on CRS to call him and if THEY forgot (a possibility) or were late, then that trip may not have been legal for him to accept per the contract and reserve assignment. Of course his sponsor, cough, cough RT, cough cough, let him down by telling him previously that if you have a Crew Notification that you can do nothing in VIPS until you accept it. I fixed him! :D |

Perhaps he misunderstood what his sponsor was telling him. It wouldn't be the first time. Anyway, I think what was meant was that once you're in vips, and you click on "Crew Notification", from that point forward, vips will not allow you to perform any other operation, without first acknowledging the crew notification. At least that's my take on it.

Can the meet and greets, hire ratios need to radically change from the AF maj/col ratio so radically employed last number of years. Time for a new paradigm; and diverse group at FDX. Navy fighter guys excepted.
