Polar Air?
Anyone here work for Polar Air Cargo? Or use to work there?
Good place to work? QOL? Schedule (2 weeks on/off)? Where do you have to be based?
Hows the future look for Polar? With Atlas taking over...
any info would help. thanks!

Depending whom you compare Polar to , is a good place or not so good a place. Polar base isb JFK, but there are few fligths out of JFKso they buy you tickets. the max you can work at Polar is 16 days, there are no involuntary extensions. I normally work 14 days. Overtime is paid pretty good if you want to do it, and all the other benefits are ok( better than commuters and other scumbag outfits but worse than the UPS AND THE LIKE).
Atlas is not taking over anything. both airlines are owned by AAWWH, in july all Atlas employes will become Polar employes and Atlas certificate will be surrendered. there is a merger of list in the process wich an arbitrator will decide and the same will happen for the merge contract.
The contract at Polar is a good QOL contract. if you work the same days than the guys at Atlas or Kalitta or even UAL you will make more than they do. that means, our hourly is lower, but if you divide our W-2 by the number of days we work you will see we get paid more per day , wich in the end is what matters.
the future is anyones guess for the new operation. Atlas is heavy on ACMI,but that is very ciclycal, while Polar does squed, but that takes a lot of management skill and planning and a great sales force, and we have neither.
depending were you in your career it could be a good move or a stupid one,but there will be no hiring for a while and definetly you won't upgrade for about 7 years or more if you were to get hired now.
