FDX Training Bump Question

About a week prior to my 12 day trip, I get notification my trip is revised, I'm being bumped half way thru for training. I'm suppose to DH home from Asia. Good deal!

Well 3 days into my 7 day trip, I get another notification that I'm back on my original pairing, apparently the student wasn't ready for IOE. So my 7 day trip becomes a 12 day trip again. Good deal gone bad. Particularly since I had only packed and planned for a week.

I've looked at the contract, and it's kinda of vague on this. I think I'm hosed!

Any thoughts?

My hunch is that if you had actually blocked out on the "new" 7 day trip, you might get a different answer but ... call Contract Admin and see what they say?

I did block out on my 7 day trip. That's my point.

Of course you're hosed. What would ever lead you to imagine otherwise? Once you block out on a trip, the only limitation that company has on extending you is age 65 or your willingness to call in sick.

As far as pay, if you were pay protected for the original 12 day trip, (and you should have been) then the pay will likely stay the same. The extra pay provisions generally apply to the difference between "originally scheduled" and "as flown". Sounds like those two will now match up.

But I could be wrong about all that, and contract admin will give you the authoritative answers you don't want to hear.

That's kinda the way I interpreted it. Easy come, easy go!

Suppose I had picked up another trip a day after I was scheduled to get back from the 7 day revised trip. Then what would have they done.

What was the trip pay code for the revised trip?

CBA 25.S.2.a.
Trips in the following pay codes are eligible for disruption compensation: TRP,AST, SOF, SWP, M/U, MUV, MUD, MUS and CIA. If a pilot's eligible trip results in a disruption, the pilot shall receive disruption pay, as provided in Section 4.W., in addition to all other compensation for that trip.

If your revised trip was coded with one of the above pay codes, you may at least be eligible for some disruption pay.

I would do some calling. You were scheduled for a 7 day trip when you blocked out - just like if the trip you are flying was picked up out of open time. I think you should get the extra pay for extending in the field, disruption, extra duty period etc. Anything you can get out of it go for it. Personally, I think being able to bump you off part of a trip for training is bogus, they should bump you from the whole trip and then draft you to fly the partial trip.

you should also keep the deviation bank that was scheduled to get you home from asia - enjoy!

I once got to SFS from SYD and got turned to SIN (a long story). I also had packed for half a trip, since I could get laundry done on SFS during my original 4 day layover. I sent all my stuff out via the SIN hotel valet cleaners and expensed it. My ACP approved it!

YMMV
