FDX - MEC Negotiating Chairman

Why?

On Thursday, October 16, MEC Chairman informed the MEC he is resigning as the Chairman of the Negotiating Committee and the MEC has accepted that resignation. The MEC is very grateful for the energy and dedication that he has provided to the membership in this position.

FE served the pilots from 2002 until 2007 as the Scheduling Vice-Chair/Hotel Committee Chairman. In this capacity he was a relentless advocate for the crew force and devoted countless hours of his personal time to the Union effort with a keen focus on “customer service” with the crew force as his customer. His association with the Scheduling effort had a direct impact in securing scores of scheduling soft parameters, many of which became the basis for new work rules in our last contract.

His recruiting efforts and engagement with the Company to assume a greater role in the fiscal responsibility of training new PSIT members and assuming the responsibility for expenses of those teams saved ALPA hundreds of thousands of dollars over the course of his tenure. This allowed greater engagement with the Company for the betterment of pilot schedules. His positive leadership style and tenacity as an advocate was appreciated by everyone associated with that process and these talents led him to be selected as the Negotiating Chairman in 2007.

The MEC feels FE is an example of the dedication shown by the best of our union volunteers. We hope you will show him the appreciation he deserves when you see him on the line.

Time for some bastard to step up and fight both the apathy within the workforce and DW's cronies (he'll be gone soon enough). Cough..Of course more info from our elected officials will be forthcoming, uh huh. Kinda feels like the forthcoming fascism from the "O" administration.

Way to go DW and gang. The taking applications email arrived in my inbox at 1037 pm Friday night and the resignation email didn't arrive until 1216 am Saturday morning. I guess you guys were too busy all day Friday. Once again you and all your staff can't get timely infomation out to the membership.

Unless there are some personal reasons, his resignation certainly doesn't emanate warm fuzzies. I'm guessing FE won't say anything negative of the MEC , for fear of the appearance of a rift from within. In the meantime...pass the koolaid.

Just another proponent of hysteria. Remember...."It'll go senior." Standing by for posting 08-XX.

I like FE but let's face it, he hasn't had much success lately. Maybe he's just "throwing in the towel"? Examples?

1. substandard LOA ... HKG still isn't filled (OK that was BC).
2. Total failure with 777 pay (should have been rolled into LOA when we had at least some negotiating capital)
3. Contract 2010? Haven't heard anything good yet? Not even a union poll so that they know what the membership wants and they can "do the right thing" (regardless of the poll results!*?)

I'm not sure that with our weak (at best) support that anyone could have done much better? Maybe his and DW's replacements will have better luck? Sure hope so ...

FE is a personal friend of mine so this comes as a shock. I will try to speak to him this weekend and find out what happened -- at the minimum I hope he is personally OK.

Sounds like a good time to start looking into the professional negotiators again. If the mustached crew think it's so important to have a pilot's input at the table, have one sitting next to the guys that know what they are doing. It makes me giggle every time I think that we think a pilot can outwit the FedEx lawyers.
