Press to test?
Maybe it would be a good time to "press to test" our 777 pay issue? I can understand the company wanting a quiet labor scene during the busy shipping season time of year. It would be a shame to disturb our "bread and butter" business but it's a bigger shame that management won't discuss new pay rates for a new airplane in accordance with our contract.
Maybe it's time for more USA Today advertising ... that certainly seemed to get the company's attention during ALPA 1!
I hate playing adversarial games with the company I work for (deep down inside it goes against everything I think is right), but have become EXTREMELY annoyed at being treated like blue collar unskilled labor (i.e. "We will go on, with or without you." or "Expat packages are for people with special skills!" or ... )

I asked JL about the Boeing strike, our 777's and the bid last week. He said thought the bid would still come out in Nov. because we need to figure out what we are going to do with the DC10 guys.
Our 1st 777 is due in July. I don't think it will get delayed too long. Boeing is still open for business and making deliveries (mostly 737s though).
Also, I'm thinking that they will throw in HKG on the 777 bid, thus, making it a 45 day bid and closing at the end of the year?
By the way...why do we need 45 days for a bid...seriously???

no, I really heard that. I do think Fedex will furlough next year. Too many bad things and not enough seats. Atleast this is what the company believes. I sure hope not, because even a little furlough puts me in the streets.

Not going to happen...probably.
1) It is extraordinarily expensive to have guys furloughed UNLESS you're planning on keeping them on the street more than a year. More airplanes are coming, therefore why furlough? Plus, you nearly kill HKG with that and that might not be the best way to go...BUUUUTTTT, you can SIBA it now, so we'll see.
2) FedEx doesn't want the pub of furloughing guys--it'll really make a wave in the business community and our stockholders will freak!
3) I keep hearing tales of "O" running around saying something about contracts we got are bigger than what the bean counters had originally thought and that there will be NO pulldown and NO excesses after peak. We'll see--I think he isn't completely in the circle of trust.
4) My take--777 is going to be a bidding nightmare. We'll need waaaaayyy more bodies in that to get past the "Two NDs in the cockpit together problem". I think the company doesn't know what to do about that. Plus, I am hanging my hat on Indy as a hub in order to make more room for the 777s and 757s. There will be more flight ops "requests to go back to the line" announcements. JL will be ruling the world by this time next year!

Per the contract: 24B.1.c.iii. 45 days for the initial posting of permanent vacancies establishing a new domicile (including FDA domicile);
So, unless they are planning on adding a new domicile (IND???) or adding MD10's to HKG it will be a normal 28 day bid.
