Default Deutsche Post's extraordinary meeting this weekend

Hmm, wonder what this is about?

I am going out on a limb to predict the UPS/DHL deal will likely be bigger including UPS moving all the packages on the ground also.

UPS seems to have DPWN's nuts in a vice. Maybe I am just being optimistic.

D.Post supervisory board in weekend meeting-sources

Fri Oct 24, 2008 12:26pm EDT

FRANKFURT, Oct. 24 (Reuters) - Deutsche Post's (DPWGn.DE: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) supervisory board will meet for an extraordinary meeting this weekend, sources familar with the situation said on Friday.

A spokeswoman for Deutsche Post declined to comment.

Deutsche Post's shares slid today after United Parcel Service (UPS.N: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) Chief Executive Scott Davis said on Thursday that the company may change the size and scope of a planned cooperation with Deutsche Post on air freight in the United States.

Deutsche Post has been struggling to turn around its business there, and analysts said measures taken may not be enough. A slump in European markets and shrinking consumer and business demand in the United States may hurt the companies earnings more this year than previously thought, they said.

Since their volume is supposedly way down wouldn't it make more sense if the deal turned out to be much smaller and not bigger as you predict?

Also, whatever happens I for one cannot feel 'optimistic' about anything that makes people lose their jobs whether here at Big Brown (which some think will happen) or at our Yellow competition. I know what you meant btw, just can't wait for the day this turmoil is finally over and done with.

The scope of the deal will be bigger, IMHO.

Could be ...or maybe since they already have hearings going on with the current scope of the deal they might try to silence the critics by shrinking the size of it?

Silence the critics huh?

You don't honestly believe that UPS or DHL care what the critics think do you? After the elections you won't hear any politician saying a word IMHO.

FedEx and UPS are picking DHL apart as we speak. I think DPWN needs to do something fast, hence the reason for the emergency meeting this weekend. Also, Reuters is saying that an update one the DHL/UPS deal is coming.

The deal will either not go through or it will be scaled down to international shipments (possibly with a small Domestic market remaining), if we do see UPS get to do ground deliveries, it could create more jobs for UPS? I would imagine that to be true. I know DHL has lost some of their domestic accounts already, to FEDEX and UPS. Any one know what will happen with DHL's Trip pack account? Or if anything will happen to it? The Trip pack is how my drivers send in their paper work to the company we contract to so we can get paid in a timely manner.
