Why a furlough WILL NOT happen at UPS
#21
One other thought:
If you F-Bomb 200-300 guys then the F/O list on both the ANC -400 and the ANC MD-11 will be gone. Who is going to fly the lines? The only guys left on the list are senior F/O + over 60 and they cannot fly certain flights with all our over 60 Captains. Even with Captains in the right seat (on JA2 pay) or Management Captains, the flights would still go uncovered.
Sometimes the opportunity cost of keeping a few over the proper number is less than the other costs. I know we are good at saving money and I hope this thought is considered.
Either way--Life is too short to focus on what might happen. I already have enough grey hair.

I was in Looneyville (SDF) the night of Obama's election and a whole bunch of our pilots were huddled around the tv with FauX news on and they thought the world was ending!
If you add that we are now socialists to your list this is exactly what they were saying. I think most of them were heading to their bomb shelters getting their guns ready before Obama's storm troopers come to take them away!
Now that is crazy!

It's funny how you try to paint the 47% who did not vote the way you did as brainwashed redneck imbeciles. I am proud we as a nation reached another milestone in race relations and am willing to listen to his ideas with an open mind and to give him a chance to prove me and the other 47% wrong. However, only in 4 years will we actually know who was right and who was wrong so maybe you need to hold off with your gloating for at least a while longer? Now that's crazy!

Why didn't you change the channel to Al-Jazeera USA (MSNBC)? You'd be singing 'what a beautiful world we live in' and celebrating a surrender... You sure they were heading for bomb shelters? Maybe they're looking for bank vaults trying to hide their 401Ks before the Acorn volunteer illegal aliens or "clinically dead but still voting" storm-cheaters made them surrender their life savings in the name of patriotism?

It's funny you assume I voted for Gobama because I was only making a funny observation from that night. Anyone who was there would have seen the same thing I did. Although some might have jumped in and joined in the frey. Things were being said in public LOUDLY that I did not want to be anywhere near for the safety of my job. (HR stuff)
I like to think that most Americans see the world with Grey colored glasses not with black and white glasses. (I am not talking about race here) I know that seeing one extreme or another makes life easy and is usually emotionally driven. Those who only see one extreme or the other make me a little nervous, but I respect their views. They probably do not feel the same about others who don't agree with their views.
How ironic chicken little is on channel 5 KYES in Anchorage. Now back to worrying about when that furlough notice is coming!

Well, I guess I jumped to the conclusion of perceptions and misconceptions; you know things such as conservatives never watch PBS, are vehemently anti-union, etc, etc.
Yet, although I view myself as a conservative I do enjoy many PBS programs, especially foreign policy reports and am a strong supporter of our union.
Either way, I disagreed with (or maybe misunderstood) parts of your post yet I managed to refrain from name calling, not sure why you ASSumed it was necessary...
Oh well, back to the regular doomsday reporting....

Wow, September 2000 article? A 'little' out of date for sure...
However, just a few minutes ago a news radio station (WTN) reported that tomorrow morning DHL will announce lay offs of between 10 - 13 thousand ground workers ...
Bad times indeed and I hope this 'prediction' turns out to be wrong or at least smaller in scale...

Management, like the union has discussed and analyzed furloughes, but both parties realize the the inefficiency of one, a short furlough and the detriment to morale and its' ensuing tangible/intangible cost(s).
There are numerous other remedies to employ before pink slips and in talking with union/managment employees both would rather employ non-separation rememdies first before issuing a furlough. Until you see these, all this talk of furlough is just that, sensational talk.
As is evidenced with the DHL deal, plans have to be fluid and day-to-day, they may change. Even with the best tea leaves, bar room discussions, and tarot cards the plan is usually too hard to determine much less start fantastic rumors of furlough.
