Lightbulb UPS Anchorage Meeting

The Anchorage Chief Pilot’s office and the Independent Pilot’s Association would like to invite you to attend a continental breakfast followed by a question and answer meeting on the state of the airline from 8:30-10:30 a.m. The breakfast and meeting will be held in the Marriott’s Valdez room, located on the second floor of the hotel, and is open to all UPS pilots.

Special guests will include: UPS Airline and International Operations Manager Bob Lekites; Air Group Operations Manager Mitch Nichols; Flight District Manager Captain Rick Barr; Aircraft Maintenance & Engineering District Manager Warren Johnson; Air Group Finance & Accounting District Manager Mark Mccloud; Air Group HR District Manager Tom Volta; and Air Group Plant Engineering Manager Jon Brugman.
The dress will be casual attire.
RSVP’s are appreciated but not required

I might be paranoid, but those are some pretty heavy hitters going up there to hold a meeting. What gives? Why ANC?

I don't think anyone of us should attend that meeting. It sounds like a perfect platform just to persuade some junior guys in to thinking the sky is falling. I wouldn't give them the satisfaction!

I might be wrong but thats how I feel. What do you guys think?

Fire away!

I agree, I would not attend if I was it town. Apparently the IPA is not endorsing this and the company states otherwise. Interesting that there would be so many upper level managment types up there.

Information from any and all sources is valuable. An opportunity to respectfully but assertively question the top management is a rare opportunity and a very good deal, IMO. When that information is passed on to the rest of us, we have the ability to filter and compare it to our other sources, and we all are wiser. After all, isn't that why we come to these newsgroups, to compare information? Now you have a chance to ask questions of someone who has more knowledge than any of us as to our future. They may (understandably) not be able to disclose some things, but we already know that, and factor it in to our knowledge base.

I am going to attend unless the IPA says not to. I hope for all of us jr ANC pilots someone from the IPA EB will attend.
I don't understand what questions the EB could ask that the dedicated adherents of this forum could not think up <g>

So based on that logic maybe someone from EB should be at the meeting if nothing more than a show of support. Or maybe tell us to not go if that would show 100% IPA!

I personally think any info from UPS is good to absorb and decipher.
Read again on the B&G

The union knew nothing of this meeting nor do they have anything to do with it, the company annouced a joint meeting not the union.

Why would management use a face-to-face to announce bad news/furloughs? I'm not buying it.

Also, doesn't it seem like the world's biggest management blunder to head up to the junior base, and announce furloughs IN THE MIDDLE OF PEAK!

C'mon guys?!

Quit thinking that you are completely expendable to this company. You are not working here out of the kindness of UPS' heart.
