FDX - Relationship between FE firing and his son's illness?

Has anyone actually connected the dots between FE, our former NC chairman's firing-to-look-like-a-resignation, and his son's tragic illness?

This board went silent about FE's firing right after the FCIF about his son. I'm guessing we all assumed the story that he resigned for unstated personal reasons was true and the FCIF topic was the reason. I don't recall how many days passed between one event and the next, but it just seems like it was too long. I doubt timing of the illness corresponds to the timing of FE's firing and therefore is not likely to be the reason FE "resigned."

Has anyone actually talked to FE himself about this? Does anyone have any facts about this aspect of the issue?

Moderate confidence rumor mill ... from a reliable source:

Says that after whatever "event" happened between DW and FE, that the MEC asked FE to jump on an airplane and fly to LAS to defend his position. FE replied that I can't, my son is critically ill and if you insist on my presence that I'm going to have to resign.

A short time later we heard that FE "resigned." I'm not positive that these "dots" actually connect but the timing seems reasonable?

I was disappointed that we lost FE regardless of the circumstances. I was saddened to learn of his sons unfortunate illness and I was disappointed that MY union might have made FE's life more difficult at an extremely difficult time in his family's life. After a short period of reflection, I was able to justify to myself that FE losing his son might have shown him (and maybe the MEC and the rest of us) what's really important in life and that NC might not be at the top of the list?

I hope we get a good replacement for him. We owe him and the membership that.

The ALPA message line came out on Oct 17th that FE had "resigned" on Oct 16, and his son passed away on Nov 17th. According to an article in the Annapolis newspaper, his son started to feel ill on Nov 12th, so I'm inclined to believe that a tragic event happened after FE was told to resign, no conspiracy in my mind.

Absolutely and totally unrelated events.

IMO, this is a horrible idea for a thread.

Agreed JJ.

FE just experienced probably the worst thing possible that a parent can.

Fellas, let's give this thread a rest.

Whether the resignation and his son's illness had anything to do with each other is none of our business. Thread closed. Depending on how I feel, I might delete the whole thing.
