Default FDX - A Reserve assignments at 1600?

I just saw an AM launch trip quickly cycle thru open time as Schedules assigned it to an A period reserve.

No chance to pick it up. Can they do that per the CBA? At 1600?

Default no problem

Sure they can. Let's assume that trip was just dropped by a guy who called in sick. It was only visible on open time long enough for it to be assigned. It was after 1100 CST so you couldn't pick it up. I was told by a scheduler that all trips they assign show up on open time even if it is for a short amount of time.

Copy that.

I know it shows up as an available open time trip as they enter the names into it. Same for X pairings.

With all due respect, why would you want to pick it up? I am amazed at the lack of foresight many are showing by picking everything up that they can. Doesnt this only make managements case of overmanning? Discipline boys, discipline.

Well....one might want to trade a current double leg hub turn for a back end dead head that pays the same. If the system was allowed to work I would expect multiple trades and reserves being assigned junk rather than being assigned trips immediately after sitting in open time for only minutes. No wonder they instituted the bot blocker.

I don't want to reduce my days off because it only proves management's theory about manning.

But I also believe it is o.k. to trade "up" to a better schedule.

This is the problem. The pairing was not in open time for more than 15 minutes. I didn't see, saw it, then it was gone to reserves 12 hrs before show.

I'm not sure what problem you think you see here. 12 hours is not some magic number re: open time. If an am launch goes into open time ~12 hours prior, we're talking about ~2pm open (maybe a sick call?) for a 2am show. That's well past the assignment window and cannot be picked up out of open time (that would have been an option prior to 10am, but not at 2pm). Trips for the next day are available to pickup until 10am the day prior and then it's cut off. Sometimes, pm departures will be available for pickup a bit later than that, but not the am stuff.
Of course it's going to be assigned to an A-reserve. They don't hold them until it's inside a few hours prior to departure. When was the last time you were on reserve? I'm sure whoever that A-reserve is, he's going to appreciate the early notification so he can plan his rest/sleep. Much better than a 1201am call for a trip in 1.5-2 hours.

Who says you cannot pick up a trip out of open time past 1100AM? My biggest problem now is where you used to get notice at 1100AM that you had an airport stby so you went in early and got a sleep room now you get a call at midnight to show at 0130 and then a trip at 0330. Which means no sleep. Also three airport stby used to be used in the 72 each morning now sometimes only one. Makes overmanning look even worse.
