What-ever....major quibbling - you lose, move on.

What about the guys who use mil leave to drop a trip, can they make those hours up should something become available?
Totally agree - M/U @ "straight time" is not causing any of our manning/productivity problems. In fact, BECAUSE of mil leave, dropping trips, etc. - many, many pilots have huge M/U banks that they will never even come close to using - those hours were flown by either RSV, VLT, DFT or training used them. so.....M/U - not bad/shouldn't be banned.

It is better to cancel the flight than someone take the flight on DFT because if the company has to DFT someone, then they obviously don't have enough bodies on RSV to cover the trips. Therefore, they need more bodies on RSV and/or in general. Every trip they can get some greedy bastage to take on DFT is one less pilot they need on the property.

It wouldn't take too many trips being canx (lost revenue) for the company to fix that manning problem by having more bodies on staff (or at least the correct number of bodies)

So, YES - canx the trip vs. someone pick it up on DFT - but don't hold your collective breath for that to happen. The company will find a Purple Koolaid drinker to take every DFT trip offered - and still cry "we're overmanned"!!

A little off the immeditate topic but I was talking to a Dispatcher on the bus from the Pax terminal to the Democrat Lot this morning.

Asked him what he heard, and he said that the airline schedule shows enough hours to fly for 11 months of the 12 month calender year. 10s as we know will be retired, and some Buses will be retired instead of going through heavy mx. I assume those to be the 310-200s.

Asked him about the volume for the holiday season. He said overall, it was down except for the Monday before Christmas. On that night we did break some records, but it was last minute shoppers. Overall, lower than last year.

Talked about DHL, and he said that we aren't seeing a huge amount, as their customers were lower cost and can't justify FedEx Express. I have heard that before from another source. I have also heard that while Express may not get a lot of new business, it adds pricing power to UPS and FedEx. Also, I have heard other FedEx companies may benefit more from the former DHL customers.

He said that GOC is having a hard time planning accurate payloads because things are so off the 8 week historical figures that they use.
