With the big bid out, when will FedEx start training again?

Hi all - new to the forum and new to the FedEx pool - backstroke!

I've seen some crosstalk on these subjects but nothing very new since the bid release.

Does anyone have info on when training will start since the large bid came out? Any info on the number currently in the pool and how many will be pulled per month?

During the interview, we were told direct hiring to the right seat of everything. Any info on crew bases? I've heard lots of rumors on ANC and Subic. Is there any kind of choice or is base dictated to the newbies.

Finally, my wife already informed me I will be commuting to those bases if I get one so could someone provide a little insight into the commute process at FedEx. I would be commuting from the Jackson, MS or Memphis area.

Your time is appreciated. Thanks.

Don't get too excited...We are not hiring directly to the captain seat. I have been here ten years now and will be lucky to get an MD-11 capt. slot on this one. Taking about 4-6 years for 727 capt. There is no way to sugar coat it commuting sucks. I did it for 5 years to ANC and it is not fun.

Sorry FR8Hauler, I totally screwed that up....i meant direct to the RIGHT seat - not the left. I went back and corrected - thanks.

I agree on commuting - did it for 3 years at AA. I would like to know whatever anyone can share about commuting with FedEx specifically...tricks/traps, etc.

I'm excited just be in the pool. I would gladly sit side saddle again in the 727. But, the prospect of direct hiring to the right seat obviously interests me.

Do you have any current intel on anything else in the first post?

Thanks for your time!

First off congratulations for having made it to the pool. Hopefully you'll be out the water soon enough!:)
As you are former AA, you should know that mear line slugs are the last to know. We'll update you on where the beer is cheapest and coldest but you (soon to be) newbies are in a better position to know where your going and what you'll fly. The MOAB (Mother Of All Bids) is posted and comments on other threads here in this forum. Again good luck, see you around AOC or better yet, Muff Divers!;)

How are the former Altus guys doing down there?? I'm currently at the 58th, due to retire in July.

PurpleOrange,
Welcome to the pool> I live on Pickwick lake In beautiful Iuka MS:) and am in the mem a300 right seat. Commuting is not too bad from our distances, lots of guys in the jackson guard unit at fedex. Might talk to some of them. The company "management" is looking at deadheading time and duty times for commuters so watch that if you go to anc. Subic is going away so the company says and is becoming a more dangerous place to live. Hopefully Kim will give you a call soon with a report time.

Congatulations and welcome aboard. FedEx actually is very easy to commute at. Pretty much unlimited jumpseats everywhere in the world that you will be able to get confirmed reservations on. A policy of no harm no foul so that if js does not make it you don't get hammered. It also has a great deviation deal that you can take your deadhead money and use it to buy a ticket to and from work. There are some gotchas but it is not bad. I have not seen the latest but commuters make up around 75% of the guys.

Dave P2 -
The Altus guys both new and old seem to like it just fine. Most of the older ones are at FedEx - although activated for the last year flying to/around Iraq. I'm a Boeing guy here at Jackson. I was asked to interview at the unit but with the pending activation, I didn't want to lose my chance for a FedEx interview. Turned out to be the right call - lucky. I do work with all of the guys in the unit though and know most of them pretty well.

Thanks for the info HFBPILOT! I've talked with the guys in the unit but they could provide no info on ANC since none are based there. I would prefer MEM but I have no idea how the company is going to offer slots. That's why I've been trying to find out if ANC is going to be dictated or if it will be an option.

Can you give me any insight into fleet differences as far as where they go, how they are scheduled, types of flying, etc. How does the company use its 10/11 fleet vs the Bus fleet? I've tried looking these specifics up on line but can't find that level of detail.

Thanks FR8Hauler-

Great info. One of my buds explained about the deadhead "bank" and while I don't understand the finer details, I think I have the basics. Sure beats AA.....then again, what doesn't right now?

Did I mention how happy I am to be here??:D

Can't wait to fly with you guys!
