FDX - Parking ALL A310's??
 

AIR Inc. took special note of FedEx... which analysts expect will report a huge drop in profits. As ANN reported, if that's the case the package-shipping giant will be forced to cut jobs, retire jets and scale back expansion plans.
FedEx has already announced it will be retire all (14) DC-10s, park all (66) A310s and replace its 85 B727s with B757s. The shipping giant has also said it is overstaffed by 700 pilots, though for now FedEx plans to cut flight hours to avoid furloughs.

The Memphis, Tennessee-based company, which like United Parcel Service Inc is considered a bellwether of U.S. economic health, reported that net income for its fiscal second quarter ended November 30 rose to $493 million, or $1.58 per share.
That compared with the $479 million, or $1.54 per share, the company reported a year earlier.
FedEx said falling fuel prices had lifted profits, which offset lower package volumes due to global economic weakness.
"I am very pleased with the results," said Dan Ortwerth, a research analyst at Edward Jones. "FedEx is getting better and better at managing its cost structure."

I wouldn't pay much attention to what Kit Darby's research shows. For years now he's been preaching an imminent pilot shortage but now that layoffs seem to be en vogue he simply joined the "half-empty" bandwagon..

Sure we're going to park all of our A310s, DC-10s and B727s - the question is when... Weren't the 727's supposed to be parked NLT 2005.... :rolleyes:

I read in Aviation Week in 1992 that FedEx was going to retire 2 727's for each A300 they received? Guess that didn't happen, we just finally parked all the 727-100's recently? At least now there really is a plan to replace the 727's with 757's :D

too senior to be screwed..although this is my first airline...what would u know about that?

I believe 2014 is the latest date.

(...note: that will give some Age 65 Capt's who can retire in Dec 2013, a full extra year in the back to work on their retirements...;):o)
