UPS No Bid hypothetical

Assume that UPS parks all of the DC-8s tomorrow. What would happen to an FE, not yet 65, that is a NB due to medical? Would this FE simply have to get a 1st or 2nd class medical to continue to NB, or is there more to it than that?

I didn't see anything in the contract that seemed to address this. Perhaps this would be settled ad hoc?

Any ideas?

The way I read the contract is that it would not matter if they had a "medical" or not. If all the FE aircraft were parked, then that position would be eliminated. The only way you could "stick" around is if you upgraded to Capt or FO.

The way I read it they'd get furloughed (can't be terminated unless PFE). Of course it'd mean junior FOs would get furloughed too... Once recalls start they'd be recalled first (based on their seniority)...

Let's hope none of that will ever happen...

Not sure how you figure they would get furloughed. (If the airplane goes then so does the position).

What part of the contract are you looking at? Junior FO's. Do you see how senior some of these FE's are?

Same applies to the over 65 FE's.

I almost think the company is going to get rid of all the -8's just to MAKE the over 65 crowd RETIRE.

Inconceivable! Where would we get experienced pilots from?

Same thing that happened to the 747, and the 727 before that. All the positions would be displaced. Displaced NB's would be still be NB's, but their pay would be unaffected unless released to the line in new seat. If the company didn't offer enough vacancies to accomodate all the positions, then after the displacement musical chairs was complete, the junior guys would drop off into furlough. Over 65's would not have an airplane, and would have to retire.

Roberto,
Not sure I understand this. I dont think this would be the same thing as the 747 and 727. In those cases there were other FE seats to displace to.

If the company parks all the -8's then there are no more FE seats and therefore no positions. (i.e. mandatory retirement).

Is this not the case?

As Roberto stated :

Sweet Mother Thersea skateboarding in San Francisco.

Where would we get them...the ranks of our Military, of course.

We flew over a C-17 the other day, and we looked down at them and they were all wearing UPS pajamas.
