Obama's Inauguration Speech

Did anyone else catch Obama's call for workers to accept lower wages in order to keep their fellow men/women employed?? I wonder if any of the ND's will take those words to heart and perhaps stop flying CO, or even retire?

Um, let me answer my own question . . . He!! NO!

"It is the kindness to take in a stranger when the levees break, the selflessness of workers who would rather cut their hours than see a friend lose their job which sees us through our darkest hours."

You guys do that already at Fedex. The exact thing you voted on in your contract, which is being implemented now, is what was suggested by President Obama. It was good enough to be included in your contract, but not so much now? Hmmm...

Sure beats what we've had over the past few years.............;)

Frenchman crying - June, 1940

He cries as he watches the German soldiers marching down the Champs Elysees. The glory of France has been ground underfoot by Hitler's goose-stepping legions. In a matter of weeks, the vaunted French army, the Maginot Line, and all of France's pride has been destroyed by the Nazi blitzkreig. He is a middle-aged man, maybe in his mid Forties. Look at his tears, his tie, his nice suit. He survived World War One and looks like he has since prospered. And now? The night has fallen over France, and soon, all of Europe.

Are you real familiar with our contract and the intent of that section. Didn't think so... Thanks for chiming in.

Hmmmmm,
the point is that a few select examples of humanity are working 100+ hours a month while the majority of us are in the 60s.

It is also our contention that Mgt has lowered the BLG purely as an economic cost savings without any real intention/capability to furlough

The contract measure was included w/out change from our first contract. Next contract I am confident some additional verbiage will be included to clarify the intent of shared sacrifice to keep the bros from hitting the street

At WHAT?

I don't know a thing about your contract but the Obama was speaking of workers working fewer hours to keep your junior brothers from a furlough. Kind of a novel concept in America, the "group" taking a hit instead of the normal "me, me, me" attitude. He said nothing of wage concessions.

Obama's speech showed that either he or his speech writer has a good understanding of where the moral high ground is. He mentioned a number of things that people around the world will be happy about, from recognizing that life is about more than just accumulating wealth, to the sacrifice those in uniform, as well as those out of uniform have made for this country, to workers taking reduced wages to keep others on the payroll, to business being done in the light of day, to the promise of aid for those countries that need it, to a warning to those who believe they can bring down our way of life. A very uplifting speech, in my opinion.

It was a unique experience for me, because I watched the inauguration and the speech, in a 2nd grade classroom, along with the 7 year old boy I mentor, and his classmates. They all thought it was "cool". Actually, so did I. My "kid" lost his dad a few years ago in a light plane accident, and I've been working with him since the beginning of the school year. He's learning a lot, and frankly, so am I. For one, I'm learning how to better deal with some of the guys who post here. Now that's an accomplishment.:D You can't imagine how difficult it was to sit and watch those images, while sitting on an elementary school chair. It felt like torture. Never mind closing down Gitmo, close down these elementary schools, a breeding ground for future whiners and complainers, I say.:D:D
