Fedex Reserve Days
 

I'm a long time lurker, but thought I'd add my 2 cents.

First of all, I normally bid reserve. It really POs me to work 15 days for 60 hours, but adding insult to injury, I can't move/drop R days due to insufficient reserves. I planned on dropping my schedule and picking up trips (if I could find them). I can't even move the majority of them, and many of these are weekdays.

From the company standpoint, we are very overmanned (hence the large drop in BLG.) So overmanned that have to cut hours. If we are so overmanned, why are we still working 15/19 days on reserve? Why can't we drop (or at least move) reserve days?

I've been trying to drop since 9:30 PM on Thursday (MD-11 FO). Anyone else having this problem???

This is total BS!

Line holders are working fewer days while guys/gals on reserve plus flex instructors work the full 15/19 days.

Union leaders are conveniently quiet on this subject. No acknowlegement of the problem or even a message line addressing efforts underway to mitigate or litigate.

Once again the junior guys get the shaft -- trend continues until morale improves.

The LEC 7 update mentions it. Try around 22 Jan.:)

I'm pretty sure I saw a message line that said the union was grieving this issue. As far as junior guys getting hosed, I agree. However, I'm not sure how many junior guys are getting reserve lines these days.

Suggestion, next time you attempt to move an R-day:
- First, copy the Open Time/Max Open data (with VIPS time stamp at bottom of page).
- Second, submit and copy your R-day move request.
- Third, copy the DISAPPROVED for insufficient reserves notification.
- Finally, forward all three to the Union and ask them to get the reason for disapproval.

Might not like the answer, but at least you'll have one and the Union gets the data.

I just don't understand why all flex instructors don't give notice in mass. Make a stand.

They're in the MEM "brother-in-law club", they don't want to **** off the other members ... it would hurt their chances for their future management jobs

This problem supports my theory.

The company wants a bunch of guys on reserve to cover any sick or drops. Ensure reliable service. Plus, they don't want to pay draft or volunteer. That seems reasonable at first...

But then they moan about the expense of having guys on reserve. So now they have a fix. Just pay reserve less. All under the excuse that this is a manning fix.

No, No. This particular policy is a cost savings initiative. NOT a manning mitigation measure. Another grab by the company.

If they want to save some $$ they need to fire a few of the managers whose job it is to hold meetings and figure out ways to extract more blood out of the pilots.
