FDX: KIX-CAN J/S then DH HKG via Van?
Hi All,
I was pondering a possible scenario to save some bank money for the commute (ANC based).
I have a trip that goes to KIX then lays over with a pax to HKG the next day followed by a couple days in HGK. The bank is worth keeping for the commute, but the only real option for getting to HGK on us is going to CAN first, then catching a ride with the crew to the boarder (I think this is the best plan). Anyway, is there a possibility that this is really feasible with the Chinese customs and fellow crew members or is this a bad idea. My other thought was to catch a train to NRT then take us to HGK from there, but I don't even think we are running flight from NRT-HGK that day anyway...
Any thoughts?
Thanks,

I checked into this; have a similar trip (R U PD?). Not much in the way of options to make this happen; at least I couldn't find one I liked.
Somehow going "off the grid" via j/s thru a brand-new mainland China base doesn't thrill me; with my luck I'd end up in the same cell as one of the guys dropped off at the border at 4AM. Once we're past the Grand Opening and things are running a little smoother, I'd probably reconsider.
BTW...do they still make your family pay for the bullet when they shoot you over there?

Things may have changed but it was not possible to go from China to HKG with our VISA before. May be different now, but I know it used to be a big no no. FCIF about not doing it...Caused some problems with their customs who contacted the company.

This is what the Shenzen Airport Briefing says on the Fedex Website:
Entry / Exit Procedures
• Special Crew China Visa: This visa may only be used to enter and/or depart mainland China for the following purposes:
• When operating a FedEx aircraft as a crewmember, or
• When deadheading into or out of mainland China on a FedEx aircraft as a Jumpseater, commercial aircraft or on scheduled ground transportation for the purpose of conducting FedEx flight business.
If this is still in effect, then I'm not sure you'll not be allowed to jumpseat into China, and ground transport to HKG. You have to operate out of China, not do ground transport to HKG. You can jumpseat into HKG, and ground transport into China, but not the other way around, I believe.
Good question to ask the new HKG chief pilot. If you find out the definitive answer, ask him to publish the answer.
